Travel back in time to Showa Era at Grand Hyatt Tokyo beer garden

Grand Hyatt Tokyo will hold a series of summer beer garden events inspired by Japan’s Showa Era, beginning on July 3. The beer garden will be held on the spacious outdoor garden and Thyme banquet room located on the hotel’s 4th floor. The Showa Era was an important post-war period when Japan experienced rapid economic growth and change in its lifestyle. During this period, the spirit of unity and human connection among Japanese grew very strong, along with the country’s hope and optimism, as everyone worked diligently together toward rebuilding a vibrant Japan.

At Grand Hyatt Tokyo, the good times from this era will be reimagined as a retro beer garden during a lively evening of reminiscence and nostalgia. The beer garden will exude the ambience of Japan in the '50s and '60s, decorated with paper lanterns, draft beer taps and uchiwa (paper fans). Guests will enjoy popular music from the era while dining on Showa-inspired Japanese snacks, including ham katsu, cheese kamaboko (fish cakes) and potato salad, as well as free-flowing beverages such as highballs, beer, hoppy (beer-flavored beverage that became popular in the Showa era) and shochu cocktails.
