Akita pudding store unveils retro Showa-era inspired ramune pudding

With temperatures during the summer in Japan reaching highs of 40°C+, there’s no better way to cool down than with a retro bottle of ramune.

Although it can be bought year round the drink is representative of summer in Japan, and brings back nostalgic memories for many of hot summer days, local dagashiya (Japanese sweet stores) and a bottle with a marble stopper.

Akita Purin-tei is a local pudding speciality store in Akita that focuses on recreating retro desserts inspired by the Showa era. This summer the store has introduced a ramune-flavored pudding to their pudding lineup.

The pudding features the store’s classic ‘smooth pudding’ topped with a beautiful blue ramune-flavored jelly, that when held up to the sunlight seems to shine like a sky on a bright summer’s day.

The classic smooth pudding base is made by mixing local ingredients from the prefecture with top-of-the-range vanilla beans from Madagascar. The jelly and pudding come together and create a refreshing treat that can be enjoyed on a hot midsummer's day.

The new flavor is available for summer only, and can be purchased over the counter or online. Bring the scent of summer to your ‘home cafe’ or share the nostalgic taste with family, friends and loved ones.

Akita Purin-tei specializes in producing puddings inspired by nostalgia for the area of Michinoku (the old name for the Tohoku region). The store is Akita Prefecture’s first pudding specialty manufacturer, and since opening has become a hit in the area, typically selling more than 1,000 units per day.

The puddings are all handmade in store using ultra-luxury natural vanilla beans from Madagascar. Coming in a variety of flavors that change with the season, Akita Purin-tei’s pudding pots are the perfect treat for all people of all ages.

Akita Purin-tei’s puddings are also the perfect choice for a midyear gift, and whether you prefer the sweetest desserts on the menu or your savoury kind of person, the pudding speciality store has a wide range of gift sets to suit all tastes and preferences. Gift sets can be ordered both online and in store, and can be shipped nationwide.

The ramune flavored pudding is available as part of a six-piece gift set for 3,000 yen. This particular selection includes two ramune puddings, two retro puddings and two original puddings from the store.
