Bagel & Bagel is the top bagel provider in Japan, accounting for 83% of all bagel sales in the nation. With 29 locations throughout Japan and an online store, there are already many ways of getting you bagel fix. However, bagel lovers in Japan now have an even easier way of getting their Bagel & Bagel bagels.

Bagel & Bagel products are on sale at NewDays and NewDays Kiosk convenience store locations within the Tokyo area, Nagano and Tohoku (with the exception of Aomori and Akita Prefectures). If you've ever traveled around Japan using JR, you've probably noticed these stores since they are almost always located within or in the vicinity of JR stations.

Bagel & Bagel bagels don't use oil, eggs, or milk in their dough, which makes them lower in calories and fat compared to other bread products made using conventional methods. They are therefore an ideal choice for health-conscious customers. At NewDays and NewDays Kiosk locations, you'll have seven bagels to choose from.

Love bagels, I just wish there were more dedicated bagel shops here that sell not only sweet bagels but also savory bagels like onion, garlic, tomato or spinach. Nothing beats a freshly baked bagel with cream cheese in the morning. They also should be freshly made and not in a wrapper. If this will be a hit, we shall see.

Blueberry bagels can be absolutely divine. Not sure about the other flavors. My favorites are blueberry, onion, sesame seed and "everything" (onion, poppies, sesame seeds and a touch of garlic). Oy! In another life my morning jog would take me past a bagle bakery. The smells! I have a bad bagel habit.

It would be nice if they sold savory flavors, like salmon and cream cheese.

As a New Yorker born and raised in Queens County, I really have a hard time eating what they call bagels all over the world, let alone here with the sugar content.

If they called them something unique I could understand.

They got good Lox here and tasty red onions, cream cheese and capers, but bagels are horrible. Even at those bagel shops around Kanto.

@zichi: Where do you get good whole wheat flour and rye flour in Japan?

And bagels are boiled in big vats of oil. How do you do that?

And bagels are boiled in big vats of oil.

Not true at all.

Bagels are boiled in water, not oil.

Boiling bagels in oil would mean they were deep fried, and bagels are not deep fried.

Maybe you’re thinking about some chippy in Glasgow. You know, the ones that deep fry everything.

In any case, someone claiming they’re from Queens, NYC, should know how bagels are made.

Bagels are boilied in water, not oil. That was a mistype. Got distracted typing while watching the old Hotel Drama with Ippei. He is cute..

They are baked after boiling. Seems easy but rather quite technical.

@Zichi: Thanks for the up and up on where you get your flour. We appreciate it.

Tomizawa is also a good place to buy flour and other products for baking. There are many branches around Tokyo.
