Buns are fried chicken?! Check out KFC's Chicken Filet Double

KFC's new sandwich, the Chicken Filet Double, goes on sale Feb 2. It is something different which may surprise regular diners at KFC. It uses chicken "buns" instead of bread.

The Chicken Filet Double contains two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets, two pieces of bacon, a melted slice of cheese and mayonnaise sauce between two chunks of fried chicken. The seasoning is the same for the regular chicken on the menu.

Leading the new product promotion, KFC at Ikebukuro Sunshine street has been rearranged as a Chicken Double Store until Feb 2.

According to the results of a pre-release survey by KFC, the new type of sandwich surprised people with its strong meat impact but made them curious enough to try it.

The U.S. and Australia have already sold the sandwich named “Double Down.” KFC received inquiries from Japanese fans wanting to try it. So here it is. Just don't try to think about the calories.

Price: 450 yen (500 yen with M size drink)

I think they should also put a tax on unhealthy foods such as this and much of McD's menus....

And Tonkatsu?

Excess protein intake can cause weight gain, intestinal irritation (constipation, diarrhea, wind), dehydration, seizure, heart disease, kidney problems and bad breath.

Excess anything can cause health problems, Cleo, even kittens.

more protein and less carbs what's not to like ;p , they promote it as having less than 600 kcal, the only problem then would be the sodium content, but you are not supposed to eat this stuff everyday right?

Finally, my prayers to KAMI-SAMA and the Colonel have been answered..!

Just don't make me go all the way to Tokyo to get it...KAMI-SAMA and the Colonel!

looks awesome! i would eat this instead of eating wheat bread anytime. not interested in getting celiac disease

2 ( +4 / -3 )

They should rename it the "Metabolic Monstrosity".

2 ( +3 / -1 )

well done KFC! could you also make it 'double skinned'.... thats the best bit

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Never mind the calories, I'm going to skip it just because it looks darned messy to eat... :-)

Just order a Diet Coke and you'll be alright. (^_^)

Austrailia and the U.S. call it a "Double Down?" After eating this thing, it should be called "Man Down!"

Go to your local suupermarket and pick up a few hamburger buns or the like. Take half the chicken and make two chicken burgers, then give one to your friend. 225 yen ea.

Ugh, just looking at the picture makes me feel ill. Processed chemically enhanced "meat" product, grease, fat, oil, and more fat. At least with tonkatsu you can get cabbage and pickled vegetables. Or even a Big Mac, you can get some onions, lettuce, tomato and pickles...

They've had that at KFCs in America for a few years, now. You have the option of original recipe or grilled. Grilled is the healthier of the two, though you're STILL getting a ton of calories.

Hot n Spicy is better

This will finally get me to go to a KFC over here. This is something I couldn't even get in the UK.

Great cant wait for these to go on sale. who cares about eating healthy.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

If they come out with a skin and lard sandwich, that would be even better than this.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

How did Kentucky Fried Cat get into the arguement about healthy eating?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

A great gift idea for the skinny people you hate.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Now if that wrapped that in a grilled bacon sarcophagus...mmmm, yum!

It has less calories than a BK whopper (no cheese), and if you move up to a double whopper with cheese, its almost double the calories of this KFC 'burger'. Sure it sounds like its a double-bypass in the making, but really, how is this any worse than just going and getting a 2-piece original chicken lunch set?

Having said that, i tried this in NY after all my aussie friends raved about it, and was somewhat disappointed. Just like eating 2 pieces of chicken in one go. With a paperthin slice of bacon and some cheese/mayo to make things messy.

this thing is disgusting and I can't believe it is coming to Japan. They can claim that this thing is less than 600 calories all they want but the fact is that if you add up each individual ingredient used to make the double down the calorie amount goes well over 900.

Here in Ikebukuro they painted the KFC building all black and took down the KFC signs near Tokyu Hands on Sunshine street to advertise this monstrosity.

For many years now, each time I fill up a form for the kenkou shindan, the doctor's comment is usually "nenpi warui ne", meaning my metabolism burns at a faster-than-normal rate. With a height of 180 cms, and a weight of 75 kgs, but eating food good for 2-3 each meal.

Saying that, this product looks yummy, but I would like it with an omori rice ... so I guess I could only eat this at home?

I do think the way to a full and healthy life is to adopt the sensible system of "small helpings, no seconds, no snacking and a little bit of everything." Above all - have a good time! Julia Child - forward to Mastering the Art of French Cooking

NOt good Jack. You will miss out on all the good calories and fat blobs.

Plus there are no hamburger buns, unless you raid the fridge of a hamburger chain.

America slowly trying to make Japan as fat as them..... I enjoy KFC once in a while but this is ott

This is perfect for Christmas!

So, you just eat it it with your hands?? I hope its not too hot!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@KariHaruka No no no no, America is not trying to make you fat. You shouldn't attack the country for what KFC is doing on it's own.

If I were you I wouldn't try to attack the food industry in America. Now this Double Down may be dangerous for your health but the one thing they you can appreciate here is their honesty. You know it's dangerous, fattening and loaded with sodium. You have a choice to walk away from this.

If we get started on Japan's food industry....then we start talking about whether or not it's actually safe to eat. Mislabeled products with unknown origins in order to make a profit. That's as far as I go on that.

I'm not saying you should eat this American import from KFC but at least you know beforehand what you are biting into.

@dentshop, celiac disease is worse than eating these "mechanically separated chicken and chemicals"

granted those are not ideal, but if you want to talk about eating chemicals, look no further than the modern wheat based bread. Not only are those heavily dosed with chemicals, but they are genetically modified, looking nothing like its ancestral forefather. Celiac disease will mess up your gut, leave it vulnerable, and ultimately lead to autoimmune diseases such as diabetes and cancer--that would be worse than eating mechanically separated chicken.

Perfect if you're low-carbing and throw the bun away anyway.

Meat and fish are between 18% and 22% protein, tofu 8%, an egg is 6.5 or so, so getting 75 grams protein takes a bit of eating.

Fat is not the big evil it was once considered to be. Margarine and palm oil, once thought to be healthy because they are plant-based, have been found to be pretty artery clogging. Butter is actually better for you. The rush in the 60s to cut out eggs (which has been found to have next to nothing to do with blood cholesterol levels), butter, cream, and all those yummy things our grandparents ate without being obese. Sugar, combined with fat, is deadly. As Americans have cut out the fat in their foods, eaten fewer eggs, and eaten much less meat in the past 30 years, because of the enormous amounts of sugar they consume, they have become more obese than at any time in history.

A 'juice glass', that came with a standard set of glassware in the 60s held under 3 ounces of juice. Along with portion sizes, table ware has become bigger, your morning juice glass now holds 7 or 8 ounces. You're drinking the equivalent of up to 12 oranges each morning.

Coffee- Flavored coffee drinks (don't think I can name brands) have from 50-70 grams of sugar per large serving. 70 grams is the average that goes into a whole decorated roll cake here in Japan...in one cup of coffee! Add in a muffin for breakfast, a snack in the afternoon (never mind dessert after dinner) and it's easy to see that the average American eats over 200g of sugar a day, one cup of sugar. These daily multiple spikes in blood sugar and resultant insulin surges are hell on the body.

Baked goods-muffins are so huge now that they have an average of 48 grams of sugar each, 12 tablespoons.

Here's a link to Sugar Stacks, a site where you can see, in the number of sugar cubes, how much sugar is in different foods.

http://www.sugarstacks.com/beverages.htm

Cutting out only fat isn't going to do it.

The rush in the 60s to cut out eggs (which has been found to have next to nothing to do with blood cholesterol levels), butter, cream, and all those yummy things our grandparents ate without being obese 'was based on faulty science'

Sorry, cut out part of that by mistake.

I had one of these today. Oishikatta~!

588Kcal - so that is almost 1 Yen per Kcal - great marketing strategy! How about a healthy lean chicken soup on the menu?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I see the chicken filets, the bacon, the cheese and the mayo, where's the fried chicken?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Come on Japan! Get fatter! Cost the tax payers more money for health care! Come on!

On the plus size, the fatter they get, the easier for to find clothes in my size!!

No such thing as excess kittens, Nessie. And they don't cause weight gain, intestinal irritation (constipation, diarrhea, wind), dehydration, seizure, heart disease, kidney problems and bad breath, unless you eat them.

They spread toxoplasmosis (possible symptoms of which are enlarged lymph nodes in the head and neck, headache, mild illness with fever, similar to mononucleosis, muscle pain, sore throat, confusion, retinal inflammation, and seizures).

All things in moderation . . . KFC Double Down, included.

their great

i would eat this instead of eating wheat bread anytime. not interested in getting celiac disease

Do some research on mechanically separated chicken and the chemicals used to destroy the bacteria.

Celiac disease wont seem so bad.

This is sooo gross. And here's the dumb question of the day; regarless of if this is healthy or not, the question should be.. in a country wtih the BEST food in the WORLD. WHO WOULD WANT to buy crap like this when the native cuisine is delectable!? Yah, if you're a foreigner, you get to missing the foods your used to after a whil, but .. settling for fast food? bleh! I'd rather hit up a shabu shabu place.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Disgusting.

-3 ( +5 / -7 )

They spread toxoplasmosis

Kitties that spend their lives indoors, do not hunt wild prey and do not eat raw meat are highly unlikely to carry or spread the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis. Those that do shed the organism for no more than a few days in their entre life.

Moderation and KFC Double Down do not belong in the same sentence unless there's a negative in there somewhere.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Excess anything can cause health problems, Cleo, even kittens.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

more protein and less carbs what's not to like

Most people already get way more protein than they need - and no one needs protein from unhealthy sources like this monstrosity.

The average person needs no more than 50-75 grams of protein per day, depending on body weight. Excess protein intake can cause weight gain, intestinal irritation (constipation, diarrhea, wind), dehydration, seizure, heart disease, kidney problems and bad breath.

You knew this was coming. If McDonalds can put out the Grand Canyon burger then Kentucky is definitely going to bring this one over.

The Double Down aka Double Coronary Bypass has been been a subject of controversy across the U.S. In a nation that is desperately trying to trim the fat some fast food chains are still trying to ice skate uphill.

We are giving it to you Japan. America's has clamped down on smoking...Phillip Morris came over here. Now we are giving it to you.....The Double Bypass chicken burger. I'll see you in ICU. Bet you'll never throw the Colonel in the water again. He's out for revenge.

My message to Japan as an American: I did not wish this on you. They claim you asked for it. I don't think you asked for this. I offer my apologies (it's not enough) but I can't stop them. You gave KFC so much money every Xmas. Now he wants you to Double Down.

This is disgusting btw. It's very greasy.

The J-government puts a tax on alcohol and tobacco...I think they should also put a tax on unhealthy foods such as this and much of McD's menus....

American influence is going to make Japanese diabetic too! Sick!

-9 ( +3 / -11 )

To those of wishing to ingest this MONSTROSITY do you have any last words other than "pain in my chest" for your next of kin? What part of Double Coronary Bypass did you not understand? Go to YouTube and watch EPIC MEAL time.

You like Bacon? Chicken and Bacon. Cheese Gromit!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpKtarjTvqU

I think you better call Paula Deen and ask her if it's okay to eat this. Why don't you guys get a couple of Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the bread and stack that around your Double Down Bypass as well. Oh that's EPIC.

Don't negative me. I'm looking out for you. This is a public service announcement. Anyway if you do ignore the small print on the side of this .....this thing.....make your peace God first.
