Burger King loves to keep us on our toes in Japan, surprising us with new release announcements just a day before the items appear on the menu. That’s what happened today when the chain revealed it would be adding a Steak Sauce Whopper to its lineup from tomorrow, and it’s not just the sauce that’s special, because the new burger contains actual steak pieces.

These new items are said to be on a whole other level in terms of quality, with the chain describing them as “gourmet burgers." Both contain a 100-percent flame-grilled American beef patty and American cubed beef shoulder loin, the latter of which is prepared via a two-stage sous vide cooking process to enhance the flavor. After eight months of trials the chain was able to perfect the steak recipe, pairing it with a specially developed garlic-infused roasted soy sauce-style sauce and adding vegetables and mayo sauce for crunch and extra flavor.

There are a total of four new Steak Sauce Whoppers coming our way.

The bright red ingredient inside the spicy burgers isn’t a sauce — it’s a scattering of spicy garlic flakes, designed to sting your tongue with heat while you enjoy the meat. As lovers of spice and all things nice, we’ll definitely be trying both versions.

Although the chain hasn’t specified an exact end date for the burgers, they’ll only be around for a limited time.

Those look very satisfying. Not too healthful, and the prices are probably spicier than the sauce, but great for an occasional tasty treat. May be time for me to ride to Fuji again.

BK in Japan is ridiculously expensive. They wouldn’t even exist in the states if they tried to pull off a burger at their prices. The new one looks nice but the price you can get so much better.

ask burger king staff how long they have to work to afford one meal...its just overpriced/or staff very underpaid?/

I'm not sure steak belongs on a hamburger. I mean, I find steak chewy and the last thing I want to do is chew too long while I'm enjoying "fast food". Don't get me wrong, I love Burger King, but I think I'll stick with the Double Whopper for now.

When we were on holiday in Japan I made sure not to eat any beef because American beef is dangerous, and is rightly banned for human consumption along with US chicken. With in Europe. The beef has illegal growth hormones and antibiotics fed to the cows as standard. And US chickens are so badly kept that they have to be chlorine washed before being sold for consumption. Eggs aren't washed or refrigerated in Europe, by washing them the protective layer of wax like coating is removed. This layer excluded onto every egg by the hen protects the egg from bacteria but allows the forming chick get oxygen.

So Burger King pushing American beef are putting Europeans from eating there
