I had to think a bit, but decided that it could be really good. Never know with new mixes, but if there isn't any tomato sauce involved, I don't see any conflict with fish and potato wedges on pizza dough.

Sorta like how Spanish put different toppings on stale bread w/ tomato and call it bruschetta. We usually do with shrimp or crab, but some non-breaded fish wouldn't be bad.

I don't see an reason for angst. We love fusion cuisine. In our home Italian meatballs turn up in my Chinese wife's noodle soup with bok choi, soy sauce and other Chinese seasonings. I joke we need to put meatballs or ground up Italian sausage and spaghetti sauce in baozhe. Chitalian! There was a popular Mexican-Japanese fusion joint in San Diego called the Banzai Cantina. We love to mix and match that way.

@ Zichi & Pukey2 - Yes, most pizza prices in Japan are insane. I just stick to Costco pizza and the Shakey's buffet. I like Fish n' Chips and pizza, but not together. That's a personal taste.

I use vegan cheese. If I can't find any, then I make do without. Besides , pizza marinara doesn't have cheese. The beauty is that you can put what you like. I love using onions, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, aubergines/eggplants, even zucchinis/courgettes. And no, I do not use pineapples.

I'd say the standard of the foreign cuisine in the UK is better because of the large immigrant communities. They're not going to eat the food if it's not good or authentic. I've come across a restaurant in Japan where they put natto on top of a chapati, and they called it a pizza. And don't get me started on the Indian food in Japan.

Pizza in Japan is better than the one in England though.

No need to apologise for this weird pizza. Mayonaisse and nori on the other hand, I expect a proper apology and a long, deep seiza.

Cuisine is and should be a thing in motion. If all were static, we'd still be subsisting on the poor fare our ancestors did. Doesn't sound like my type - I make my own avocado and pepperoni pizza, a California staple - but I don't begrudge those who do.

When I was living in the US, a sort of Japanese restaurant put out a dish called a Sushi Pizza. It truly wan't a pizza as the crust was just seaweed, topped with sushi rice and other toppings. Basically sushi, but it was really good. Of course it had dressing like Sushi often does in the US. That in itself is a faux pas.

Most of the time the Japanese are just horrible at making pizzas, the biggest problem is, they just put stuff on there to be different and do not understand if what or which topping goes the best with one another or is tastefully palatable, I really believe they don't spend enough time testing and evaluating these products thoroughly before putting it out for the public to try. Pizza is a food that doesn't need to be re-invented, you can't really build upon what is already pretty much perfect if you follow the basic traditions and some do just that, but the majority in Japan do not. Pizza should never be complicated.

The truth is that both the 'complaint' and the 'apology' were clearly tongue in cheek. Nobody in the UK was really offended - although Italians probably would be, as they are ridiculously hypersensitive about their culinary products. I like originality when it comes to pizzas, but I do feel that, in this case, having both potato and dough together does seem a bit excessive in the carbohydrate department. On the other hand, probably not that much worse than an English chip butty!

Oh the glory of Pizza long ago as a wee lad when Giovanni's, a tiny shop on a busy street, arrived with homemade Italian sausage, an ocean of sauce and real Italian cheese...that is, a pizza appreciator. Somehow, my first time in a Hiroshima pizza joint, I was talked into ordering Tuna as a topping. took a bite, chewed it a bit, and then reached reflexively for a napkin into which I could deposit it. Ah,,,no...sushi with ketchup wouldn't be as 'weird'...and the picture is what I might expect London street pizza to look like...sometimes 'acculturation' is a hopeless task... hmmmm... sushi with ketchup...?

So you'd figure Domino's Pizza Japan wouldn't feel the need to apologize for any of their ambitious pizza toppings.

There is no such thing as vegan cheese! It may be a "cheese-like" product, or something that may resemble cheese, but it ain't cheese!

Brits are sensitive about the "image" of their cooking!

There are now so many independent pizza shops around Tokyo the price of pizza averages around 1,000yen I reckon. Heck even if you do use one of the big delivery places they always have offers on so it doesn't work out pricey.

I had it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the butter chicken curry one more, though.
