Domino’s Japan unleashes 1 kilo of cheese pizza

By Big Neko, grape Japan

Foreign travelers are often perplexed by some of the more unusual toppings available for pizza in Japan--such as corn and mayo--but every once in a while you'll run into something completely off the wall like "kawaii pink" deep dish. Domino's Japan may be trying to set a new standout standard with their latest release, a pizza topped with 1kg of cheese.

It's fittingly called the "New Yorker 1 kilo Ultimate Cheese", and is a follow up by popular demand to last year's release of a pizza with 4x the normal amount of cheese as topping. With 1kg of Mozzarella, even the most dedicated cheese lover may be in over their head.

The cheese heavy pizza will be available for a limited time from Domino's Japan until June 23, priced at 3,300 for takeaway and 4,000 yen for delivery. It clocks in at 3,832 calories if you're wondering--although if you're ordering this, you probably aren't.

You'll need to chase it with a litre of drain cleaner to move it through your system.

You'd think the delivery fee would be higher to account for fuel surcharge

Should read.....

Domino’s Japan unleashes 1 kilo of the “cheapest mozzarella” “skimpy sauce” “undercooked” cheese pizza

What’s with these pizza chains and their skimpy use of the sauce?

but does it come with sweet corn and shrimp?!?!

Digusting. It isn't even real cheese, it's that plastic stuff.

@Reckless, unfortunately, you'll be backed up for days.

But is it the real good stuff?

Would any New Yorkers like to wade in about the naming of this? Some of them are very proud of their pizza.

Calling this cheese is a joke. Complete fake cr&ap industrial gimmick.

Have a look at the king of "mozzarella". Just need to go to the toilet to vomit...

I travel many Asian counties every year past 25 years . I have noticed weight gains going on more and more every year. Many look like Americans or Europeans now :)

As usual fake "mozzarella" full of palm oil.

Real mozzarella is white not yellow.

1 kg of industrial junk food.

It always amazes me hoe Japanese freak out over other countries making sushi, etc, but they abuse the crap out of national dishes from other places.

I tend to agree with this in general though I'm not sure if Dominos, a notoriously low-quality American pizza chain going back more than 50 years, is an example of the Japanese abusing anything. I ate Dominos in college in the '90s and I've eaten it here once or twice. It's godawful in either place.

OTOH, I live within walking distance of two insanely good artisanal pizza shops. Both run by young guys, with full stone ovens. One of the guys, like your typical Japanese craftsman/apprentice, went to Italy to learn from a master.

That's around $36 plus the mother of all heart burn, and stomach cramps, best prepare for two weeks of toilet terrors.
