A standard food item in Japanese convenience stores are the nikuman steamed Chinese meat-filled dumplings, as well as their derivative cousins such as pizza-man and curry-man. They’re all great and very filling for the price averaging between 100 and 200 yen.
But now, nationwide convenience store chain FamilyMart seems to be really upping their game with the Golden Brown Bistro-man Gooey Cheese Curry Flavor (Kongari Bistro-man Doro-ri Cheese Curry Aji).

Its long name is actually rather fitting once you know everything going on inside one of these things. To start, there’s a curry flavored with 20 spices, four fruits, vegetables, and caramelized onions. This is then topped with a well-balanced blend of mozzarella, Gouda, and Parmesan cheeses.
“Topped” might sound odd, since dumplings usually only have fillings rather than toppings. The Golden Brown Bistro-man Gooey Cheese Curry Flavor, however, is an open-concept dumpling with a hole in the top for the contents to be exposed. This is expected to enhance the aroma and overall enjoyment of it.
You can probably also notice from the picture that rather than the very soft steamed bread of other curry-man dumplings, this bread has been baked for a golden brown color. The combination of baking and then steaming is also thought to give it a delectably chewy texture unlike any other dumpling.
It certainly looks worth trying out, and FamilyMart is going to make that easier for everyone. By following their X (Twitter) account and reposting their promotional post, you’ll be entered to win a coupon for a free Golden Brown Bistro-man Gooey Cheese Curry Flavor. There are 40,000 coupons up for grabs, which means your chances of getting one are actually fairly good.
And even if you can get a coupon, they’ll only be 156 yen each. It’s sure to be a new step for a convenience store food.

I can't imagine how all that could come together in one place at the same time. It's like someone is going on holiday to Sapporo and needs to clean the fridge out before they leave.
I'd rather stick to my local curry place around Tokyo station, thank you very.
You can get good nikuman from a place near my manor under the train arches. The place is bonkers. They sell gyoza too. Lol

This could be interesting for a one off laugh to try. Problem with this stuff is the ingredients you see. For one the cheese used is obviously not what we would call real cheese, very processed and IMHO quite yucky.
It may taste ok if one partakes after indulging in a few alcoholic beverages when that kind of cuisines becomes rather appealing at times.
Tonight I shall make a curry from scratch, fresh ingredients, far more tasty and healthy you see.

I highly doubt it. it's just a big blob of grease and chemicals.

There’s a great name for a barbershop quartet there. Con, Gary, Bistroman and Rory are...The Cheese Curries.
When I first saw those in the shop, I thought they were cinnamon rolls or something else sweet.

You won’t believe this, just popped to local Family Mart with my son to use ATM and purchase milk. Well, my son noticed these and we bought three, one for all the family, lol
OK, it’s not healthy but it’s worth a giggle isn’t it. Was how I expected it to be really you see. Usual generic curry taste, not too much (fake) cheese and the bread wasn’t too bad, very soft and was expecting it to be sweeter.
Decent wrapper and the paper in bottom was very retro like you see from a department store. My son and partner loved it. Out of partner gave it 7.7, my son, 8.2, myself 6.9. What are we like eh?
I had once and that’s enough, partaking in this type of cuisine is not a good day on a daily basis. My some wants again, i told him twice a week is ok, no more. Don’t want him getting into bad habits.
