Halloween Afternoon Tea at the Conrad Tokyo: Spooky and elegant treats galore

The popular afternoon tea at the Conrad Tokyo bar lounge TwentyEight is better than ever this month with their Halloween Afternoon Tea.

The theme is “spooky and elegant,” and it’s one incredibly photogenic tea set, with sweet and savory treats like cute little ghost-shaped macarons, mini chicken sandwiches made with pumpkin bread rolls, coffin-shaped pistachio chocolate tart, and lychee jelly shot glass with a syringe in it. Squirt the contents of the syringe into the glass for a delightful surprise; the syrup changes color and swirls with micro-specks of gold as if Tinkerbell had just taken a dip in it. It’s magical.

The treats don’t just look good but are delicious too. One would expect no less from the Conrad’s sweets kitchen that is overseen by head pastry chef Masaki Okazaki, renowned in the sweets world as a master of sucre d’art (French for "sugar art," or the art of sugar sculpting) and creator of numerous confectionery masterpieces for hotel pastry shops, and who has won numerous awards in Japan and internationally.

The afternoon tea set is 4,500 yen per person, and on weekdays comes with limitless drinks from an ample selection, which includes several kinds of teas, coffees and juice (on weekends and holidays, you’re limited to choosing one kind of drink). Lounge around and sip endlessly while enjoying the luxurious surroundings and panoramic views of Tokyo Bay and Hamarikyu Gardens. It’s a lovely way to spend an afternoon with friends and family or a date.

If you’re a tea aficionado, you may be interested in the option for an extra 1,000 yen that lets you choose from a wider selection of teas that includes premium teas from the luxury tea house Ronnefedelt from Germany. The Deluxe Afternoon Tea Set (6,650 yen) gets you a glass of champagne and the full spectrum of teas, and the Halloween treats are served on decorative glassware that makes for an extra special presentation.

There’s a social media contest currently going on for the Halloween plan, which will give one lucky winner a stay for two in the Conrad’s Bay View Suite. One more special notice from the Conrad. On the night of Oct 28 (Sat) from 8 p.m. to midnight, there is going to be a Halloween celebration at lounge bar TwentyEight, with two-hour free flow champagne or house wine with a Halloween canape platter  (6,500 yen).
