As part of their World Mac Hawaii campaign, McDonald’s Japan will be serving up island-inspired burgers and desserts starting Tuesday. With flavors taking a cue from popular Hawaiian main dishes such as kalua pork and the famous loco moco, and desserts featuring a tropical flare, these new menu items are sure to put a little sunshine in your cold, snowy Japanese winter.
Let’s take a closer look at the World Mac Hawaii lineup:
Hawaiian Barbecue Pork
Inspired by kalua pork, a traditional Hawaiian dish cooked in an underground oven, the Hawaiian Barbecue Pork burger features slow-cooked pork, a spicy pork patty, pineapple barbecue sauce, coleslaw, and pickles. Get the taste of a luau in a burger starting Tuesday.
Loco Moco Burger
McDonald’s Japan has taken the flavors of loco moco and put it on a bun. The Loco Moco burger consists of two beef patties, a fried egg, cheese, lettuce, and powdered cheese. And what would loco moco be without the gravy sauce? They’ve added plenty on top to give it that authentic Hawaiian flavor. Get yours at the beginning of March.
Hawaiian Pancakes
We’re not sure how authentic these “Hawaiian Pancakes” are, but the mixed-berry-topped flapjacks are accompanied by vanilla soft serve ice cream with macadamia nuts sprinkled on top…so maybe they are Hawaiian after all? At any rate, you’ll be able to give them a taste on February 10 at McDonald’s locations around Japan.
Pineapple Pie & McShake Banana
The new Pineapple Pie is just like the famous warm and flaky Apple Pie from McDonald’s, except it’s filled with chunks of, you guessed it, pineapple. The McShake Banana is said to have a creamy texture that’s positively bursting with the flavor of bananas. Both of these items are just 100 yen, so even if you’re not digging the island flavors, you won’t be out a lot of mula.
This isn’t McDonald’s Japan’s first attempt at recreating the flavors of U.S. states. We’ve already experienced the Texas and Idaho burger from McDonald’s Japan just two years ago. So what do you think, Hawaiian natives? How authentic do these “Hawaiian” burgers look to you?

Mac Donalds? Bah! If I eat a burger in Japan, it's either at Lotteria or MOS, but I rarely do.

Saw the menus their speciality burgers are hit and miss.
Usually ear at Zad's, Village Vanguard Diner or similar for a Burger Meal with a Pint. McD should serve beer(draft) like back home.

I'd give the Hawaiian BBQ Pork a try...

"The flavors of a locomoco on a bun" ...
Sorry, the flavors of an authentic locomoco do not include cheese, powdered cheese, or lettuce, and where are the fried onions???
The Kalua Pork burger sounds pretty good though.

Just give me the Portuguese Sausage, Eggs, and Rice breakfast plate. loco moco's also need to be in a rice bowl, NOT a burger! It's a desecration of Hawaiian food culture! All this "haole-fied" stuffs is giving Hawaiian grinds a bad name!

I remember once going to Dallas, Fort Worth airport and asking for the "Texas burger" at a McDonald's there (which was pretty good). After the confused looks on the staff's face, O showed them a pic of it on my smartphone. They were quite impressed!

I live in Texas. We don't have a Texas burger (at least not at Mc Donalds). Though Houston, San Antonio, Dallas have lots of resturaunts of various types, i dont know that Texas itself has a type of food specific to it (unless you count Tex Mex. Alot of people consider it Mexican food but you dont see that food in Mexico really... so it probably originated here).we have our own style of bbq i guess, but everyone has their own style. Alot of resturaunts will slop chilli on a regular burger and call that Texas style, i guess under the impression that the cowboys and cattle ranchers eat tons of it in the range. And maybe they did. Back before cars existed. Im actually at a loss for what kind of food you could really call Texan.
