Items missing from your order? McDonald’s Japan will deliver them to your door

Many may already know that McDonald’s Japan delivers meals to your front door, but what you might not know is they will also deliver items that were purchased in-store that didn’t quite make it into the bag. If that happens, simply call up the McDonald’s location you purchased your item from and you can potentially receive your missing item.

There are two endings to a missing item situation.

Evidence of your botched order

If you have your receipt and it shows that you ordered two Big Macs but only received one, a McDonald’s employee will promptly deliver your second Big Mac. McDonald’s Japan states that you must have proof that the order wasn’t fulfilled correctly (your receipt) to receive a forgotten item, but even if you can’t, you won’t go away empty-handed from the inconvenient situation.

No proof of your missing item

If you are sure you ordered two Big Macs, but the receipt only reflects that you ordered one, you can still call up McDonald’s and report your missing Big Mac. In this case, since you have no written proof of ever ordering two burgers and you only paid for one, a McDonald’s employee will still come out to your residence, but will deliver a free meal deal coupon and a sincere apology instead of an actual Big Mac.

In either case, you’ll still walk away with some compensation for your messed-up order. It might be a better deal to not have any proof since you get an entire meal for free (at a later time). How’s that for great customer service?

I think this is a universal thing. The worst thing is to leave with your order, you're ready to eat, sit down and open the bag and to your horror, you see that they forgot the fries! As far as the delivery is concerned, I think it's great, but my problem is, how do they keep the fries warm? Burgers you can keep them warm for awhile, but fries get limp and dry out quickly, so if they have some technique to keep the fries crispy, more power to them.

I can attest to this, having received home delivery for mistakes two times.

One should check the bag before leaving the premises.

Had an experience like this about 20 years ago in Wakayama. The manager himself brought the mistaken items to my door. 20 years ago.

Hello, yes I'd like to report items missing from my order. I ordered 5 Big Macs, but my receipt only shows one.

No risk here for McD's, the Japanese almost never complain. About a year ago I ordered some stuff, got home and discovered I had a completely different order. It must have been someone else's order. I ate it anyway because it was late and I was hungry.

The next day I swung by McD's and complained, showing them my receipt and the bag full of wrappers. They looked confused and shrugged it off. I wasn't looking for anything, just wanted to make them aware that someone stuffed up. Apparently the other person did what I did and just ate what was in their bag without complaining.

ROFL. For every shy otaku afraid to say a word, there are 3 bachans that wouldn't be embarrassed to make them change the whole order if one item was not as warm as it should.

The fact that the even mention this suggests the problem is common. I agree with lostrune2 that one should conduct an inventory of the take-out bag's contents while still on the premises.

They used to do this back in Canada as well - and may still do so, but I haven't lived there since the '90s. But the drive-thru staff was notoriously bad for forgetting thing back then, and they would quickly drive food over if/when they screwed up the order.
