Japan’s Chubby Airlines offers box of Infinity Fried Chicken 'as big as your face'

For many, Christmas dinner is highlighted by a turkey, ham, or some other kind of roast. In Japan however, its often marked by fried chicken, specifically a tradition of hitting up KFC that can require orders made weeks in advance (although Tokyo's all-you-can-eat-and-drink KFC provides some relief for this).

It doesn't have to necessarily be the Colonel's recipe, however. Many fried chicken restaurants make Christmas-dinner family packs available for takeout during the season, and Chubby Airlines, a fast food shop with the slogan "high calories are cute" (the chain is known for large portions and tries to rebrand the idea of heavy eating as "cute" with a photogenic interior) is doing the same with their "Infinity Chicken Box", which comes with chunks of boneless fried chicken as big as your face.

The "infinity" is in reference to the name of the chicken's seasoning (a mixture of garlic, butter, and soy sauce) and not the amount of chicken in the box, which totals to five slices. Each measures out 15 cm, which the chain says is as big as most faces.

The box is available for order from Chubby Airlines, and reservations are recommended. A box on its own is 2,500 yen, but an extra 100 yen will net you a collector's cup.

Weird as

High calories are cute? What about the people that stuff their face with them? Mmmm no.

That's gotta be the weirdest business strategy I've seen in a while

Yuck.

Wait, there's a Chubby Airlines?

Wait, there's a Chubby Airlines?

It's a cartoony airline-themed fast food joint. There is one in that mall near Disneyland. Their Instagram-ready gimmicks are fried chicken thighs that have been pressed to make them look bigger (see story) and fries that are about 20cm long, presumably from using reconstituted potato. They also throw in some super vibrant colours and a jolly "it's not a bug, it's a feature" approach to the calories in fried chicken and fries. My kids destroyed it all before I got much of a look in, but I seem to remember the chicken being very garlic-y. The fries weren't as good as KFCs, which come in tiny portions but have a very good taste (probably chicken oil and MSG).

The food at Chubby is a bit pricy for fast food, so you have to pay for all this fun and gimmicks. The business may sink or swim, but since it is gimmick-driven, so it should not be surprising that a "Japan is zanY!" blog like grape have been straight there. They'll get their money's worth out of this for sure.

Sorry, the photo is clearly of split and pressed fried chicken breast. Chicken breast is less popular and much cheaper than thigh meat in Japan, the reverse of Anglo countries.

Everytime I see this amount of junk, I'm reminded of that Mad TV sketch, 'Fat ass that!'

Obscene.

Sorry, the photo is clearly of split and pressed fried chicken breast. C

the girl is infinitely hot too: fried chicken and hot girls advertising it, take my money!

the chicken quality has to be bottom shelf tho...squished in cages and pumped full of bloating chemicals. or worse, imported from china...

Mmm, heart attack on a plate.

Fat shaming needs to return. Join me. There is nothing brave or beautiful looking like a beached whale at KFC.

And there's nothing brave or beautiful about bullying people because of how they look.

Chubby means something else in English and I don't mean being overweight.

Where is this place?

So many healthy eaters here. But too much complain this and that.

Yeah, we need to talk about how KFC now has better fries than McD's, BK, and MOS.

I mean, bravo KFC, didn't see that coming.
