Japan’s first ever burger chain celebrates with a whole fried crab burger

Bigger fast food chains in Japan may offer some eye-catching limited edition specials, such as McDonald's first ever rice burgers and Burger King's all-you-can-eat one pound behemoth burgers, but Dom Dom Burger has the nostalgic appeal of being the country's first ever burger chain.

Their latest release may give it some extra appeal, however, as the long-standing burger joint will be adding a celebratory "whole fried crab burger"--claws and all--to its menu.

The Whole Crab Burger is a commemorative release of the chain's new opening of a store in Japan's oldest theme park, Asakusa Hanayashiki. The burger sandwiches an entire fried soft shell crab in between two buns, so you can enjoy the umami of fresh crab meat, the crunch of a shell, and of course, the guts.

The whole crab burgers is on sale at all Dom Domu locations in Japan.

I think there is something profoundly creepy about leaving the limbs as they are, but that's just me.

Haha I will admit this looks nasty, but it's gotta be a lot tastier and better for health than any beef burger.

Maybe, but it tastes delicious. I mean all kinds of foods don't have the best look, but judge by the taste, not the look. It's food, not art.

Anyone who grew up on the East Coast United States from Chesapeake Bay north would be very familiar with soft shelled crabs. Despite the comments from those who have never tried it, it's delicious. One of Ian Fleming's Bond novels has him looking forward to Softshelled crabs when visiting the US. If you like fried shrimp, you will like this. Found the people in Venice Italy also ate softshelled crabs and they kept in in raw beaten egg before cooking, to my surprise. But the biggest surprise is that the Japanese who literally eat just about anything from the sea, do not eat softshelled crabs. I would bet these are farmed and shipped from Vietnam or Thailand.
