Once a niche offering at convenience stores, the fruits sandwich has found itself riding a bit of a boom in Japan. The dessert sandwich, which serves up slices of fruit and whipped cream between fluffy slices of bread, has become a trendy sweet treat thanks not only to its deliciousness, but "Instagrammable" look.

Japan's first vegan fruit sandwich specialty store, "fruits and season" is now offering a tropical twist on the sweet with a sandwich that uses some of the most prized mangoes in the country.

The limited quantity sandwiches use Miyazaki Prefecture's Taiyo no Tamago (eggs of the sun) mangoes, which are regarded as the best of Japan due to their rich aroma and sweetness (coming in at a particularly high 13 percent sugar content), as well as their creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture.

fruits and season uses a homemade cream based from soy milk and original soy milk bread that does not use white sugar (beet sugar is used instead of white sugar), resulting in about 1/3 of the calories of regular fruit sandwiches. The store offers 100% vegan sandwiches using whole fruit bought directly from farmers as an initiative to address food loss.

Access information for fruit and season can be found at their official home page.

When it comes to mangoes, nothing beats those from Thailand and the Indian subcontinent.

It depends, I would disagree, Florida and the Philippines have also exceptionally sweet meaty, velvety texture and tasty mangoes.

Whipped cream or whipped artificial cream? If you are referring to the dairy product, cream, it is not vegan.

From the advert; a homemade cream based from soy milk

I don't need the fluffy white 'bread' and soy 'cream'; just gimme the mango.

I love mango.

The best mango I ever had was allowed to ripen to perfection on the branch of a tree in the garden of the place we were staying in Ogasawara. Our hostess twigged that I was a mango manic, and served me succulent fresh mango at every meal.

I was in heaven.

Hopefully I get to try it before they go out of business in 6 months!

I clicked the link to check the prices out of curiosity. 7,000¥ for a set of 4 sandwiches!

Too rich for my blood, that's for sure.

Another vegen sandwich you may wish to try, popular in California US, is with chopped vegetables, lettuce, tomato, onions, bits of cheese (not too much), on multi-grain bread - - which is healthy sandwich as too much cheese poses a health risk due to cholesterol.

I guess you have not tried Philippine mangoes.  These are delicious, especially from Cebu and the Guimaras Island area. These are the top export mangoes from the Philippines because it is known as the sweetest of all the Philippine mangoes. Also, there is a tree in India that reportedly has over 300 varieties of mangoes growing on it.  Now that's impressive!
