McDonald’s Japan brings back its duo of Samurai Mac burgers as regular menu items

By Ben K, grape Japan

One year ago, McDonald's Japan released two Samurai Mac burgers, "samurai-themed" burgers, each representing a feuding samurai faction. On one hand, the Wild Faction's roasted soy sauce double-thick beef burger, and the other, a roasted soy sauce bacon tomato thick beef burger from the Selfish Faction. In case it wasn't obvious, the "samurai" flavor comes from the rich roasted soy sauce-based sauce, as well as the promotional efforts of popular actor Masato Sakai. The burgers were available for a limited time.

Now for 2021, the Samurai Mac is back, and McDonald's has decided they're good enough to add to the regular menu, available for April 7.

Just like last year, McDonald's Japan is marketing the Samurai Mac as a burger with a taste meant to satisfy adults. Their slogan 大人を、楽しめ otona wo tanoshime, literally means "Enjoy adulthood."

Samurai Mac: Roasted Soy Sauce Double-Thick Beef Burger

The Roasted Soy Sauce Double-Thick Beef Burger (炙り醤油風ダブル肉厚ビーフ aburi shoyu fū daburu nikuatsu bufu) costs 490 yen a la carte or 790 yen in a value set. (Not available for "doubling" in the Night Mac menu).

Says it all, doesn't it?

Some years ago there was Shogun Burger in HK. It was quite good. But i would rather pay 1500 yen to 2000 yen for decent gourmet burger.

Food snobs and those with PhDs in the bloody obvious about some foods not being good for us. Probably second only to music snobs in terms of making us yawn.

Pass me the liver-destroying, skin-ageing Scotch.

I don't like double meat burgers, but I like a Cola float

It’s sad that people thumb that down.

Supposed grownups getting all excited about crap, artery-blocking junk food.

otona wo tanoshime indeed.

Sad.

"Wild" and "Selfish"? That's how I feel on the rare late Friday night out when I selfishly decide to go 100% unhealthy, wildly declaring, "Let's get some Mac before they close"! lol

Any resemblance to food is coincidental.

“Otona wo tanoshime” is more inspirational than tired, old “gambare’ all the time. (Think of it when you go to work each day, paying your ‘consumption’ & other taxes. - "Enjoy adulthood." -

Can some explain the “Selfish’ vs ‘Wild” faction concept? Was this translated from Japanese history or just fantasy?

Looks like Takehiko Inoue’s “Vagabond” silhouette of Miyamoto Musashi on the cups motif. Intentional or, infringement?

Is the ice on top-left contents supposed to look a little like “a castle”, maybe when you squint?
