Ever since the pandemic put everyone’s travel plans on hold indefinitely, big companies in Japan have been creating opportunities for our taste buds to go on holiday.

Now McDonald’s is stepping up to the plate with an invitation to imagine we’re eating in New York, in the form of two new menu items dubbed “Itta Ki Ni Naru N.Y. Burgers“, which translates to “I Feel Like I Went to N.Y. Burgers“.

Both burgers are said to recreate the New York experience with thick meat, special sauces, and unconventional square buns. The Thick Beef Burger Pepper & Cheese (460 yen) contains a thick, 100-percent beef patty, along with bacon, lettuce, onion and a smoky cheddar cheese.

▼ The burger is finished with a “rich and addictive” steak sauce made with a rich cheddar cheese sauce and ground black pepper.

The Grilled Chicken Burger Salt & Lemon (440 yen) has a “perfect balance” of chicken and vegetables, with a thick piece of chicken thigh meat sandwiched between lettuce, onion, cheddar cheese, bacon, and a salted lemon sauce, which is accented with roasted garlic and the refreshing acidity of lemon.

McDonald’s hopes customers will be able to enjoy the two stylish burgers as if they were in New York, and to help transport them there, they’ve packaged each one in a special wrapper that displays some American comic book flair.

The American comic book flair continues in the accompanying ad campaign, with an animated commercial set to “Ghostbusters”, the theme tune from the movie of the same name.

The commercial is set to start airing from Feb 8, while the burgers will be on the menu for a limited time, from Feb 9 until the middle of March.

I lived in NYC for years. Never saw these square hamburgers anywhere in the city.

Michael Machida: I saw square hamburgers all the time in NYC. They are the royalty of hamburgers there and even live in a White Castle.

It doesn't matter what shape they are. Fast food crap is fast food crap.

In the UK McDonald's sells a vegan burger. Why can't that come over here?

They even have vegan burgers in McD in some large cities of China.

White Castle burgers are soooooooooo greasy. They're called 'Slyders' because the heavy grease makes them slide to your tummy. Another nickname for them is 'Belly Bombs'.

When I was stationed in Florida me and some friends got a 10-pack of them. The grease soaked thru the bag. They're called 'Krystal Burgers' there and they made us upchuck.

It can imagine Nigel Tufnel going nuts trying to figure out how to handle a round patty on a square bun.

Actually Shake Shack burgers will "take you to New York".

As they are from New York.

but I guess they dont need to advertise here.

Does not matter how many shapes and names they come up with, it remains overprocessed, chemical-laden junk. Eat food, not junk.

Yeah, well @Plastic, while @Starpunk only got 10 burgers, ...

*Nigel always got *11.

That would be a godsend @TomSan 11:40am but J Inc as a tradition of looking at franchise business plans & proposals (Panera Bread), politely refusing then, exploiting the concepts with their own spin. Ever walk into a suburban or countryside TRIAL Supercentre ? IDENTICAL logo font and interior schema to a North American WALMART Supercenter.

Not really, you have good fast food and you have very bad fast food, good quality, and bad quality fast food.

Now having said that, Japan MD is just really at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to junk food. Don't know why their quality is so bad compared to other countries around the world.

There will be soon London British Burger in Japan as Wagyu Burger is getting popular in UK although the beef isn't from Japan.

You're absolutely right. Burgers - Red Robin, Fuddruckers, MD, BK, others are good. And I've had other (local) burgers elsewhere that are heavenly.

Then you have Hardees (bad news) and the belly bombs.

Round, square, I don't care. Good is good and bad is bad.

Huey Lewis says, 'cool is the rule but sometimes Bad is Bad'.

Ten minutes later, "I feel like I should have bought takoyaki instead N.Y. Bargars"
