Next Meats Co Ltd, a Japanese company providing plant-based alternatives to popular meaty dishes with a goal of accommodating different diets as well as combating food loss, has been finding success after the release of their vegan versions of gyudon and even yakiniku.
Response to the alternative meats, which had previously been available for online order, has been positive enough that Next will be selling their "NEXT Kalbi 1.1" and "NEXT Harami 1.1" yakiniku as well as "NEXT Gyudon 1.2" plant-based beef bowl at the new LIFE supermarket located in Mizoguchi.
All products are completely plant-based and do not contain any animal ingredients.

So, why not just eat fresh and nutritious plants, instead of highly processed, food-like substances, if one has a concern for personal health and environmental sustainability?

I have tried some of these products and others similar with an open mind. There is no way you could confuse them with meat. Taste and texture are completely different. Not necessarily bad, but I for one wouldn't swap for real meat.

Refined carbohydrate is one of the sources of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. If I give up meat, I ain't eating this highly processed refined carbs created solely to make profit. Green cruciferous veggies, nuts and beans, and many other real food are so much better.

Plant based meats. Only they are not meat. Why try to co-opt the term meat? More additives and more salt make them a less healthy alternative to actual meat.
Luddite
Ultra processed food. Yuck.

Is there a reason why Japan seems to be behind in the latest tech in plant based meat alternatives? Impossible brand in North America is legit. The plant based synthetic hemoglobin give it the beef taste that previous meat substitutes missed.

Its not meat is it so why does the word meat get even mentioned, its some other stuff , mislabeled food should be the title, its NOT meat. Dont call it meat and dont use the word Meat.
Notice when some one makes meat based plant food its not called plant is it, you know why ? Becuase no one who eats meat is silly enough to mislabel their damn food that way.
Plant based Beef ? Ya say what ? really ? FAKE Labeling !

Its Not M E A T dont mislead people by saying its meat. It isnt !

It would be so much more appealing if they fried up the onion and ginger with some black beans or lentils instead of the fake meat. Cheaper too!

Disgusting. With all the chemicals involved in making these processed fake meat, probably much unhealthier than the real thing.

Yeah, they're going to take away your beef and limit you to one hamburger a month. BOO!!! Fox viewers are already protesting, with ucker Carlson leading the charge.

I've often asked myself that. What is on offer here is mediocre at best, compared to what's on offer in the west.
The vegan cheeses back home are now on a completely new level, not to mention all the different sorts of vegan protein.
Call me cynical, but before vegans go out buying this stuff, just remember, in Japan, plant-based stuff can contain things that grow on trees, like eggs, milk and meat extract.

It tastes just like the "hamburgers" and "BBQ rib" sandwiches in schools in Baltimore. We saw a box on the loading dock at the cafeteria one day: 100% Soy plant byproduct. Let that sink in BYPRODUCT.

I had an Impossible whopper at Burger King. It was not bad but je ne sais quo

Sounds great, I'd love to try these. I love meat, but too much is bad for you. If you can trick my tongue into thinking it's meat while putting vegetables in my stomach, I'll put my hand in my pocket to give you my cash.

From welfare and environmental perspectives, it sure beats battery beef grown in sheds or on former rainforest land.
Perhaps lab-grown meat can become commercially viable, too?
