Xanthan gum is the key ingredient in Starbucks frappuccino shakes. They wouldn't be as thick without it.

You can buy it in specialist shops if you want to make the same type of shakes more cheaply at home.

They used to use flies to get the color for their strawberry drinks. Scientists say the flies ate something red and kept the dye inside of them.

Also, the food/cosmetics colouring carmine is made from crushed beetles called cochineal.

Not to be confused with carrageenan, which is a vegan thickening agent made from seaweed.
