Anything with MAYO on it should not cost more than 10 USD. It's not a gourmet item, nor does it contain other expensive ingredients (as the mayo will cover everything with it's taste)

What a "croque"! Of course room service is going to be expensive but why bother. I was just there last year and never paid more than five euros for sandwiches at bakeries etc.

An "iconic" clubhouse sandwich is made with turkey, not chicken, and has tomato but no egg. I prefer the BLT myself; less bread!!

Well, these were not cheap hotels to begin with, so markup is the norm. As way of comparison, walking over to Chinatown you can get Vietnamese sandwich for $1.75 or at T&T Asian supermarket for $2.

every hotel restaurant and room-service menu.

I had no idea a hotel restaurant was the place to eat a sandwich.

the iconic chicken, bacon, egg, lettuce and mayonnaise sandwich

I have lived 25 years in France, including a while in Paris and I have never eaten that.

travelers may be better off sticking to a croque-monsieur

Clearly. And don't ask sushi or tacos either, they will be expensive or bad, or both. There exist many French sandwiches. The "club" is probably mostly served in the tourist traps. I still find sandwiches are expensive in Paris but not to that point. Maybe in average that's 5 euros as take out (that would be 3 euros in a cheaper town) and 8 euros if you eat it at a table.

Paris topped the list with an average price of $33.10 for the iconic chicken, bacon, egg, lettuce and mayonnaise sandwich that’s a fixture on virtually every hotel restaurant and room-service menu

Because the "club sandwich" is an American thing, if you try to order something French in Texas I'm sure you would pay 35-40 dollars for it.

This is such a joke. Unless you are rich or expensing it, no one is going to pay that price for a sandwich. Paul offers these and certainly not anywhere near the price given. Snobbery knows no limits and anyone who thinks this is "average" needs a smack up the head.

Even though I do not like the concept of "luxurying" junk food, food is in the French - or let's say Mediterranean - culture as important as rock/pop in the anglo-saxon culture. Thus price is not an issue as long as the taste and quality is there. And believe me, even people with limited resources will save and spend the money if it is worth. Others prefer cars, clothes or shoes!

That sounds like something I make out of leftovers in my fridge, my leftovers probably taste better too. I've eaten French bacon and remain unimpressed.

Sorry I did not read properly the article. It was for a plain standard club sandwich. Then it is most likely better in the US or any Hilton hotel for better price! Shame!

I'd rather make the sandwich myself. Never ordered room service in any hotel and don't intend to do so.

They should have gone to Manila where I paid about 700 Yen two weeks ago for a room service club and fries.

I only eat at the hotel I stay at if they have a breakfast buffet. Otherwise, I eat out or go to the grocery store and bring something back. Hotel food is usually sub-standard (no pun intended).

I'm not a woman, but I can sure make a delicious sandwich!!笑 I would never pay more than 10 dollars for something I can easily and more deliciously make myself and cater exactly to my own tastes.

Because the "club sandwich" is an American thing

Who goes to France to eat American food anyway?

Do they include tax? I'm sure the taxes are very high in europe.

I like the look of the sandwiches in the photo! But the price? More than double I'd be prepared to pay - if the currency is US dollars (the article doesn't say).
