Pepsi’s Japan Cola and Japan Cola Zero to relaunch promising an even more Japan-like taste

Pepsi Japan have never shied away from interesting and innovative cola flavors. Previously we’ve seen Christmas cake flavorsakura flavor and many other adventurous offerings exclusive to the country. But a few years ago they came up with the idea of creating a drink specifically for cola-lovers in Japan.

What kind of beverage could that be you ask? What started off as J-Cola, was revamped and rereleased last year under the new moniker Pepsi Japan. After these initial test runs proved popular, Japan Cola, and its no-calorie counterpart, Japan Cola Zero, are back again, hopefully for good this time.

The recipe has been perfected and now should be more Japan-like than ever. After researching what kind of flavors should appeal to cola-lovers, Pepsi settled on a crisp and satisfying flavor. The Japan Cola has added salt and Japanese citrus fruit flavor, resulting in an original and distinctly Japanese taste.

Rather than go over the top with an outrageously Japanese design on the label, there's just a subtle reference to the national flag within the 'Japan Cola' logo.

Fans of interesting colas can pick up the new and improved Pepsi Japan Cola in stores all over Japan for 140 yen.

A new Japan-like taste? That scares me!

Christmas cake flavor

I missed that one. Was that any good?

Unfortunately I didn't miss Monbran ( chestnut ) flavor. That was truly disgusting. And I like chestnuts, especially when they're roasted on an open fire. :D

Har!

So, it's a salty yuzu flavour? How original. Next!

Tried J-Cola once. Didn't like it. Actually pretty disgusting like most of their gimmicks.

It tastes of fax machines and old man’s hair dye.

If it were the regular price, I'd buy calorie free cherry cola by the case. I always get the Dr Pepper zero at Costco. I would happily swap all these gimmicky pepsis for regular availability for alternative soda flavours like root beer and saspirella.

Japan-like taste?

Tastes like soy sauce?

In the US there is Vanilla Coke and Lemon Pepsi and various Mountain Dew flavors every summer. They're not too bad. As for a 'Japan flavor', what is that?

I would not drink anything that is contains artificial sugar with zero calorie. Especially in Japan all sugary drinks have the ingredient called aspartame which is known to cause all sorts of health issues. Google it if you think its a joke.
