Yes, this works. I have been doing it for years. Let the jelly rot and grow a mould before washing. Be selective and save seeds from the best tomatoes and let them get overripe before picking them.

I also save chilli seeds and they are easier as the chillies just need to be dried.

I have found that I get better results from the seeds I save than from ones I have bought.
