YUM!!! LOVE BK! Just wish it wasn't so damn expensive in Japan. In the west BK and MD prices are similar. Don't understand why it has to be so expensive here.

Good question, way overpriced.

With the App price is about the same as MD

The avocado is a tasty addition but the most popular answer***** in the recent average-to-great “Burger” poll here was simple:

“high grade beef, followed by fresh lettuce, tomatoes & cheese… mustard & ketchup like I usually do. This burger could stand on its own.”

Agree with @Aly & @bass4funk here questioning why many of Japan’s even average burgers, are so overpriced. The big J companies admit their beef is imported from Australia or America.

Larry, I have the app of course. Yes its cheaper with it. but I personally wouldn't go so far as to say its the same price. I've always been curious as to why MD's foreign competitors' menus ALWAYS seem to be overpriced in Japan. Same with Wendy's .

It’s only about “J-Profit” @AlyRustom while continuing to get away with paying low wages. The service workers stand for long hours, working at a continual hectic pace but thankfully, the stressed managers never seem discourteous to staff or customers.

*Have it Your way***” @bass4funk was the successful BK marketing campaign in North America for 40 years* and Mac even tried it with their McDLT: “Keep the hot side hot, and the cool side cool*." ($1.95 U.S. 1985)

Unfortunately, the BK company bwoke the mold in 2016 changing it to: “Be Your Way”, shifting corporate focus away from ‘made to order’ and more toward well, … whatever.

- “Burger King says in a statement that the new motto is intended to remind people that "they can and should live how they want anytime. It's ok to not be perfect ... Self-expression is most important and it's our differences that make us individuals instead of robots."

@bass4funk 8:45am: [ Don't understand why… ? ] - “Good question.”

Those are a blast from the past and I remember them well. I've never really liked McDonald's but I went there once or twice to try it out and it's the only one I truly liked.

As for a burgers’ advertised image @Mocheake, IF you have time to dine in,

order the “open face” burger.  Stack it and add condiments as you like.

Most of the good, inexpensive ¥1000 Hawaiian Burger joints here, like KUA'AINA do it.

It “Keeps the hot side hot, and the cool side cool.”

I like BK.

I like KUA'AINA even more.

Is Carl's Junior still in Tokyo? It is my favorite burger joint back home. Their Monster ThickBurger is a thing of beauty. Two 150g angus beef patties, 4 strips of bacon, three slices of cheese, mayo, not a vegetable in sight.

I went to the Tokyo branch some years back and NO Thickburger!!!! Bastardos.

Is Carl's Junior still in Tokyo?

i passed one today, it was open. Never had one but I'm not much into burgers.

I had a "Royale with cheese" in Europe. Do you know why it's called that?

There are Carl's Jrs in Jiyugaoka, Akihabara and Diver City.

Yeah, you can see how often I get down to the Big Sushi..... here in Aichi we are lucky to have 3 or 4 Burger Kings scattered about the place. Wendy's went booom a few years back, TGIFriday's the same. Not exactly a foodie paradise here.

Not exactly a foodie paradise here.

Wendy's and TGiF... foodie paradise? Well if you love deep fried and microwaved food...

Mr. K.... we still have Outback if that makes a difference....

Majority still love the chains or go for cheaper.

Never seen grilled over open flame in BK Jpn

Just wish it wasn't so damn expensive in Japan. In the west BK and MD prices are similar. Don't understand why it has to be so expensive here.

Regular Whopper Prices (individual burger only, non-set, from BK website):

Japan: 540 yen

US: $4.19 (which is 535 yen as of right now, at rate of 127.6yen/USD)

But McD got BK beat.

Prices for a Big Mac at McD can vary in the US, but its average about $4.89 (burger only, non-set) right now.

In Japan a Big Mac is 390 yen, or (with the current exchange) just $3.05 !!

Is Carl's Junior still in Tokyo?

Yes.

God, I wish they would bring Carl's Jr. to Fukuoka, they are just magnificent, especially their Western Bacon cheeseburgers are a thing of legend. The big with a lot of Japanese burger shops is that they don't often pay attention when they put a burger together, they just do a Mickey Mouse job and the presentation is often horrible. Again, not all, but quite a few. MD is one culprit and Wendy's is another. I swear, looking at these burgers when they serve them to you makes you actually want to not eat them.

-Too much lettuce to try and make it look bigger while serving a tiny knee cap pretending it's meat

-The meat patty is too salty

-The bun quality is a joke

-They often put TOO much sauce and condiments on the burger to the point you can't even taste the beef patty..

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yes, BK Japan is more expensive than McD's Japan. But, there is simply no comparison at all between the two when it comes to quality. BK's Whopper Cheese is way way way better than anything McD's has to offer. It's even quite a bit better than a Whopper in the US. I was surprised at how good it was when I finally had one here.

Plus, they have onion rings, which I prefer over fries, especially those salty tasteless ones at McD's.

Plus, they have onion rings

Yep, plus one for the O-rings!
