We might still be in November but Christmas has already begun at Starbucks in Japan, with its first festive Frappuccino of the year, the Strawberry Merry Cream Frappuccino, getting us in the holiday mood from November 1.

Now the celebrations are continuing with the unveiling of its second festive release — the Melty White Pistachio Frappuccino.

The new Frappuccino combines the nuttiness of fragrant pistachios with the sweetness of white chocolate to create a rich and decadent drinking experience. The white chocolate sauce at the bottom of the cup has a creamy texture that blends well with the milky body of the drink, and up top there’s even more richness with a swirl of Merry Cream adding a unique twist to the mix.

Like with the Strawberry Merry Cream Frappuccino, this Merry Cream contains mascarpone and white chocolate and is said to pair well with both berries and nuts (and matcha, but that’s another story). The Merry Cream will also be gracing the top of the Melty White Pistachio Mocha, a coffee version of the Frappuccino that will also be available for a limited time this holiday season.

The mocha contains pistachio, white mocha-flavoured syrup, a shot of espresso and steamed milk. The espresso is said to complement the flavour of pistachio, with everything brought together by the sweet mocha syrup. Both drinks are finished with a sprinkling of crushed pistachio cookie pieces and white chocolate powder to create the image of a tree tinged with snow.

The Melty White Pistachio Frappuccino will be available in a Tall size, priced at 678 yen for takeout or 690 yen for drink-in, while the Melty White Pistachio Mocha will be available either hot or iced, in Short through to Venti sizes, priced from 540-680 yen.

The drinks will be on the menu for a limited time, while stocks last from November 29 to December 25.

Oona is on a roll with the Starbucks latest creations. Sadly, they are not for me, I never go there and these are really unhealthy you see. When I walk past Starbucks I see many young ladies in there, so I guess it’s aimed at that demographic.

Starbucks is now a sweets shop not a coffee shop. You can't even smell coffee anymore as it's swamped by the smell of sugar and confections. The only way I'd pay 700yen for a drink is if it has alcohol.

Exactly! In fact all coffee shop franchises in Japan such as Tullys, Doutour, Excelsior are also like Starbucks in terms of being a sweet shops. Good quality coffee is near impossible to find in these coffee shops. The only places you’ll find good coffee in Tokyo are some very small coffee shops ( no seats or just 5-10 seats ) which are run by a single owner. Most of the time these Japanese owners have stayed in Australia and done professional barista training there. They really have the great unparallel coffee making skills in comparison to the university students who make coffee at Starbucks, Tullys and other franchises!

Exactly, I go for their organic straight tea and WiFi, here in Fukuoka, they have great small cafes that serve coffee, REAL coffee that Starbucks seems to have forgotten through the years.

Starbucks is Boycott in many countries in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America for it's support for the Israeli Military activities in Gaza, Nothing cool about killing women and children while sipping on a cup Blood Stained Frappuccino.

Starbucks has always had specialty drinks, even when no holiday is involved. I drink their black coffee almost exclusively, but once in a while I'll try their special limited time only drinks when they seem to be good. I exercise and watch my diet so that I can occasionally try things like this. If you drink one of these I'm pretty sure you won't drop dead half way through. Even all the one-off coffee shops where I live have specialty drinks.
