Around ¥1800. in cost for the beans alone. Scale it down then it's not a main dish. I love Green Beans but rarely eat them because of the cost, which always baffles me. Oh, I suppose one could get frozen or canned cheaper, just not for me.

How about some Bean Sprout recipes? Or an article about WHY Green Beans are ridiculously expensive? And BTW, why do we never see any investigative articles about JA on here. It's like they're a ghost corp. or something.

FizzBit, try supermarkets where you can buy green beans for 200 yen.  JA is protecting Japan from US firms like Monsato ( although losing).  In near future, Japan will not be able to make rice without US permission.  US is trying to control Japan's water too.  US wants to control Japan more by controling Japan's rice and water.

tinawatanabe, yeah + or - ¥200 + tax, with about 60 grams of beans (between 10 and 12) in a package, and you need 450 grams for this recipe, do the math please.

Sure would love a link on that.

I love green beans, and agree with FizzBit that they're ridiculously expensive here. Around ¥200 for a small packet that will just about do two people as a salad garnish, one person as a side dish.

I really don't understand the pricing; they're easy to grow, don't take up much room coz they grow upwards - you can easily grow enough to get you through the summer in a planter on a balcony, and June-July is just the right time to sow the seeds.

Another thing I don't understand (a pet peeve of mine) is why anyone would measure green beans in cups. A green bean will not fit into a cup. Are you supposed to trim them so that they're just long enough to stand up in the cup? Fizzbit tells us that one cup of green beans is 150 grams, that's easy enough to understand. Why not just write the recipe in grams in the first place? Or even lbs and oz, that's easy enough to convert.

The recipe seems quite simple, and tasty. I'll try it when the beans I planted come on line.

Beans generally have many valuable minerals, especially protein, lime. I like her with rice and fish ..

You need a bank loan to buy enough beans for the recipe. Why post dishes that are unattainable in Japan due to the high cost of some of the ingredients? There was one last year that had a mountain of cheese in it.

I got a 14.5 oz can of green beans at the Meijer store here for 69 cents. Importing green beans seems like an economic opportunity if there is a high demand.
