Use your rice cooker to bake delicious cinnamon honey apples

Life can be tough in Japan when the weather starts getting cooler and cravings for baked comfort foods start taking hold of our thoughts. With full-size ovens an absolute rarity in the common Japanese home, roast dinners and home-baked pies become more like lost friends from a bygone era; somewhere else but still etched in our hearts and never quite forgotten.

If the Japanese kitchen is lacking in the stove department, it makes up for it in volumes with a marvellous piece of wizardry known as the rice cooker. Its mettle has only recently been put to the test with some surprising recipes like fast food dinners and enormous pancakes of epic proportions. And now as the weather cools, there’s another easy recipe to try – soft baked cinnamon honey apples.

To get started, all you’ll need is four ingredients: apples, honey, cinnamon and a cube of butter.

Dig out a good-sized hole in the apples using a knife or an apple corer. Fill the apples with honey until they’re seven-eights full and then cover with the butter cube. If you love cinnamon, pop a stick inside each apple.

Once the apples are tucked up inside, simply turn the rice cooker on and let it cook for 45 minutes.

When they’re done, the insides are soft and syrupy. Serve them up with ice cream or whipped cream and sprinkle with a hit of cinnamon.

Japanese netizens who tried the recipe were suitably impressed with the taste, texture, and delicious aroma of these baked apples. While baking in a conventional oven requires constant checks and temperature adjustments, cooking with a rice-cooker is as easy as pressing a button, which means all you have to do is sit back and wait.

It is very interesting and unique!!! I think I would try it^^ But my family will be surprised when they open the rice cooker, cinnamon honey apples there!!! lol Anyway, the rice cooker can arrange many kinds of food like cake, steamed bread, or rice cake(Mochi) etc... I have cooked the chocolate cake used rice cooker. It was nice!! I think the rice cooker is very useful. My grandmother often makes "Takikomi gohan" for me. It is a Japanese rice dish seasoned with Dashi and soy sauce with mushrooms, vegetables and meats. I like it very much^^ Last Sunday, she taught me the way to cook “Takikomi gohan”. I will teach to my child and tell the taste of my grandmother.
