We try KFC’s all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant

We visited the all-you-can-eat KFC buffet restaurant in Japan before the official opening day and found more than just fried chicken on the menu. There are also pastas, soups, breads, sweets, and even an all-you-can-drink beer plan!

Thursday's opening of the LaLaport Expo City complex in Suita City, Osaka, will unveil eight entertainment facilities and 305 shiny new stores.

We found the restaurant easily, thanks to Colonel Sanders outside greeting customers, just as he does at stores all KFC branches in Japan. However, once we stepped inside, it was obvious that this would be an entirely different experience from the usual fast food world of KFC. The open interior and wood furnishings give the restaurant a fresh, bright atmosphere (photo below).

We did what any first visitor to the complex would do and made a beeline for the all-you-can-eat KFC buffet restaurant, where we were blown away by the amazing array of food on offer.

For adults, the buffet prices, including unlimited self-serve soft drinks, are 1,880 yen during weekday lunch (11 a.m.-5 p.m.); 1,980 yen during weekend lunch, and 2,480 yen at dinnertime (5 p.m.-10 p.m.) every day of the week. Respective prices for kids are 980, 1,080, and 1,280 yen, but children not yet in elementary school can dine at a set rate of 480 yen while children under 3 years-of-age eat free. All-you-can-drink draft beer is an additional 1,070 yen.

The prices are an absolute bargain, considering they include 90 minutes with all the golden pieces of delicious fried chicken you can eat. And that’s not all because there are a whopping 60 menu items on offer for customers to enjoy.

There’s a variety of pasta dishes, including spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti with arrabiata sauce and even a dish called “Western-style oden” which was actually a creamy vegetable soup.

The hot dishes on the buffet table also include lasagne, garlic bread, pizza bread, and a special macaroni and cheese dish made according to a recipe from Colonel Sanders himself.

The salad bar includes the famous KFC coleslaw. We were also happily surprised to see so many sweets available! The eight types of mini desserts looked gorgeous in the display case. There are also six different ice creams, which act as the perfect palate cleanser after eating all that fried chicken.

Great food and a great atmosphere of southern hospitality all at a great price. We’ll definitely be back for more, Colonel Sanders. But first, we need to get in a few rounds at the gym after all that food!

I think I would come out on the plus side of this particular offer.

But first, we need to get in a few rounds at the gym after all that food!

After reading this I got an image of bipedal megafauna laboriously plodding on a treadmill.

I don't eat fast food much (not a hater though, woo hoo Subway!)... but I get really depressed whenever I see that Japanese KFC doesn't have mashed potatoes. You've got to have mashed potatoes with fried chicken. It's just part of the deal.

Quotation from "Peep Show"...:

"No, Jeremy, it's not all you can eat, it's all you want to eat"

Big difference.

Its not really "al you can drink draft beer" if there is a 90 min time limit.

@Wc

If you can manage a pint every five minutes, as a famous Aussie friend used to, you'll find an hour and a half is plenty of time for " all you you can drink", plus a bit that you can't... : )
