Women have warm hands, their periods alter their sense of taste and they can't work long hours -- just some of the claims from those in Japan who believe women can't be sushi chefs.

Also, women should not enter a sumo ring coz possibly for the same reasons and because they would desecrate sacred ground. Not even if it was a nurse to save a man in the middle of a heart attack... Japan's society sometimes is soooo behind in times that it still mind blowing.

Sushi chefs need to start wearing gloves from now on in light of the nasty viruses and bacteria floating around in our air. This should get rid of the dumb "women's hands are too warm" nonsense.

I've seen the sushi prep staff at conveyor belt sushi in Osaka (Dotonbori) wear disposable gloves to prepare sushi, so no reason why everyone else can't.

I fully support her and all the women.

"East Side Sushi", an American movie about a woman who becomes a sushi chef.

I’m a woman. And I have the coldest hands of anyone I know in a regular basis.

Wkmenc generally have poorer circulation than men. People with poor circulation have cold hands. Is the warm hands thing even true? I doubt it. They probably make the women so nervous with their judgement and pressure that they broke a sweat making their hands unusually warm, LOL

I just had to look it up. Everything points to women having colder hands than men. It’s time to replace all the men in the kitchen.

After all this time, did women not contest this???!!!

Who would have thought that women were people and could work long hours-just amazing!
