Harry Potter stars sad to say goodbye

I just watched "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone". I forgot ( besides how to spell. LOL) how entertaining the Potter films can be. They leave me with a happy feeling. Not many movies ( outside of anime that is) can still get me to feel like a kid again. I wish them all well and much success with their lives.

boring and derivative - always fall asleep during these movies. If it is getting some children to actually read more books, that is great but I am happy to say I have never paid to see these movies. Perhaps growing up reading The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings set a high standard.

Goodbye!! Really, according to British Media on Friday, Rawling is planning 3 more Potter books and of course films.

Watching this junk is like reading The Hobbit. Impossible to finish.

I really can't understand all the fuss about Harry Potter. I fell asleep watching the 1st one and haven't seen any more of this boring sequels.

Most of the fuss about Potter is because of the Books NOT the movies(which suck as they are a poor adaptation, ditto for LOTR, Watership Down, Never Ending Story, Enemy Mine, etc movies).

Lots of questions also gets answered/explained in later books, much about the Potter world is NOT explained in the Movies.

LOTR poor adaptation? Granted I havent read the books but the movies kick *SS, especially considered how much went into the production of it. Pooter films aint bad actually except for one which was aired last nite.

And I want to see the last 2 as well. There I said it. :)

Visually and action/SFX wise the LOTR movies are good apart from that there is sooo much more in the Books. Tolkien like Michael Ende never fully desribes things leaving it up to the readers imagination to create the world/Universe. One reason why the books are so hard to adapt for the screen.

Not sure if I will see the last 2 Potter Movies, read about the changes exclusions and inclusions they made on them.

The latest Harry Potter movie is all "growed up" (and not just talking about Hermione). Had to be 2 parts because they have to tie things up, not just skip over them like previous movies. Fight scenes after fight scenes, even a "semi" sex scene, tortures deaths bloods - things kids of the first book would be scared to watch. Still has funny scenes though, but it ends like Empire Strikes Back. Played to sold-out crowds to the tune of US$24 million on Thursday midnight openings and US$125 million for the first weekend.

I went to see it, and I actually liked it all right. It is vastly different from the first film, but that is to be expected, it's interesting to see how much the characters (and of course the actors themselves) have grown up. I haven't read the books (just the first one).

But imagine all the millions in royalties they'll get for years and years from DVD sales and rentals ...

lol watch the first movie and you'll realise the growth of their acting throughout the series.

There's no question that these kids are mostly set for life, money-wise. It will be a challenge for them to find things to do with themselves though, to satisfy their own growth. When people have made you into a star and a cause celebre at age 10, you can almost only go downhill.

Its an excellent series of books and an excellent series of movies based on the books. So was the Lord of the Rings. Nobody should expect a movie to cover all that the book does. But if it brings the story to life and creates the magic of the book on screen, then it is worth watching. The HP movies are all endorsed by the author and if you havent watched them all or read the books, then your opinion is based on ignorance and thereby irrelevant.

I found the books exremely boring and stupid. Will not see these movies.

Oh my. For all those people who are 'bored' with these books and or movies: Do you even realize it's for children?

I do know that many adults also enjoy these series, but if you don't like children's stories, then don't expect a story written for children to be the exact same as an adult one.

That said, the author does an excellent job of having the novels grow with the characters. I would say that the first book in the series is really written for a 10 year old child whereas the last book in the series is definitely for older children (15 and up).

Also, these books also cater to people who enjoy reading fantasy and not everyone is a fantasy lover. Also, comparing the Potter series to LOTR is just plain wrong. Completely different. I doubt there are many 10 year old children would can stay away long enough to finish those books.

I saw the latest movie this past Saturday night. Honestly, it could have been wrapped up in about 40 minutes or so. Admittedly, I never read any of the books, but the information provided in this segment was not that much. Maybe the next installment will of similar length (146 minutes) and the producers felt that a 3 hour movie would have been unacceptable to the public so they put the filler in this part.

But with all movies, you need to take a look yourself, but my advise would be to wait for the DVD.

I liked all of the books and the movies that I have seen so far. I have to wait for the DVD. But what really struck me about the Harry Potter phenomena was getting the religious nutters to give it nearly daily free advertisement. I would have never read the first one without all the noise made by the religious nuts. They turned it into the success it has been because they got the adults to read what had been a children's book, most of us might have ignored.

I hope they invested wisely, the gravy train will come to a full stop.

It's funny when people try to compare Lord of the Rings with Harry Potter. I remember back in the '90s when i made my attempt to read the brand new Harry Potter novel, after having read Silmarillion and LOTR, i couldn't even read 20 pages. I felt it was a stupid fairy tale for kids. That's their difference. LOTR is an epic tale, while Harry Potter is a fairy tale. Again, i can understand the popularity among children, but you can't really compare a Lamborghini with a Fiat.

Good luck to the actors of the Harry Potter films. Usually, after a huge success like that, there might be several obstacles in their career.

Ah, of course they're sad that they have to say goodbye because now they have to find work again after having a continuous income with the HP series. Constant work and constant income as an actor/actress can be a pain obviously.

Radcliffe might go back on the stage till he gets another Movie offer.

Harry Potter books, movies ARE FOR KIDS! Many kids all around the world LOVE these books, movies etc...you old farts here complaining that the books are not interesting etc..go to hell! If you are an old fart, trying to get excited by Harry Potter books, and then comment here that they are not interesting, well you will never be able to be a good father or mother. I know thousands of kids that love Harry Potter, and I love to see that shine in their eyes, that MAGIC that only CHILDREN can understand, not old farts!

The last thing HP actors want is to be typecast like Leonard Nimoy (Spock) was after Star Trek. That's why, despite the regular income, they'd like to move on with their careers and be known for more than just HP.

elbudamexicano, you have a point. If people can't understand what children -and now teenagers- enjoy about HP, they won't understand children. So good luck to them.

Interesting to see if they ever get any other movie work (except straight to DVD stuff). Rumour is Rowling is thinking of a couple more books and that we may even find out that Harry and Ron are closet lovers (explains soooo much).

LoveUSA, if the books were "boring and stupid" (the description makes you sound like an intellectual lightweight BTW) why did you read them?

I think the success of HP is great and millions of children read the books (probably reading something other than game instruction for the first time in years) and it fired up many children's imaginations.

That said I find it hard to like it because JK Rowling wrote the first book while on the dole and I feel if she had time to spend writing this then she had time to work or at least part of the royalties should belong to the people of the UK.

And before someone says it the same as writing something at home after your day job, that is not what she did she sat all day in a coffee shop writing this.

These child stars for the most part will have a hard time loosing the HP recognition which will make it hard for people not to view them as the characters they played in the movie even when and if they get another role, Radcliffe was the smart one doing theater in such a complete departure from HP that he may be the one that will come out of this the best.

The gravy train will soon be over. They will have to wait for the next series of films or get out and actually start acting to make a living.

I never understood the appeal of the Harry Potter movie franchise... The books were good, but every movie so far with perhaps the exception of the third installment has been a bit of a let-down for me. Slow plot with bad acting, redeemed only by special effects - a bit like Star Wars 1 and 2.
