Direct-to-consumer genetic test results may be unreliable

A DNA test showed my wife at 44% of one type of background, but the same lab showed our daughter at only 2%. Seems to me that that is highly unlikely.

I saw an investigative video on YouTube where identical twins sent their dna into a variety of these different genetic services to see how the results would differ between services and the twins themselves. The conclusion was that they're highly inaccurate because they don't have a wide enough pool of 'control DNA'. I'd never pay for one myself, even though I'm mixed race and very curious on my ancestral history. (plus I'd really like to know if the diabetes from dad's side or the heart disease from mum's side is gonna get me first)

Good gawd but people are dumb. The unbridled faith placed in DNA testing is on a religious scale and people actually think these lab workers are the new infallible priest or something. Its not only these voluntary tests but law enforcement tests as well. Healthy skepticism is warranted, if for no better reason, humans can pretty much mess anything up and that goes double when its microscopic items they are dealing with.

In the USA, these voluntary genetic tests are being accessed by law enforcement to find family matches and drastically reduce suspects.
