Mediterranean diet has more vegetables than a USA one. But Greece has the highest obesity in Europe so I'd question what the diet is actually helping? Still too much oil though. This causes sludge-blood, endothelial cell restriction. Fewer gallstones are nice and all but if you didn't want ANY gallstones how about a plant based diet instead?

Gallstones are caused by cholesterol and are made up of cholesterol. If you don't eat meat then you're not adding it to your body and thus it can then heal itself without surgery.
Go watch What The Health documentary or Forks Over Knives. Search NutritionFacts.org for the studies on the Mediterranean diet. It turns out even Mediterraneans don't eat the Mediterranean diet of old. Since the 1960's obesity has skyrocketed as more meat and cholesterol based foods have been consumed. Prior to that Greece had a low death rate. Now it's one of the highest.
