Exercise usually pulls me through melancholy and which is why the Tokyo workstyle is depressing because the long hours and commute suck all your time away from a chance to exercise or even sleep well.

that and the grey ugly weather, but yeah exercise does help, as well as the occasional gaijin meet up to disconnect from melancholy Japan

Agreed exercise is helpful towards beating depression... But, it also, really depends upon what you are depressed about....

Exercise won’t be a cure for depression. But it sure helps.
