Most parents know good hygiene, not folklore, helps prevent colds

I’m American and have noticed in anime and also Japanese drama that a character will say, “go to bed, don’t sleep on the floor (or on the furniture) or you’ll get a cold/get sick”. In America I have never heard this! Is this a real thing in Japan? Do people think/ say that ? Please share your thoughts!!
