Only 4%, that’s of almost no relevance, compared with corona viruses 100% linked to corona deaths, traffic 100% linked to deadly accidents and denying gravity at too much height 100% linked to deaths after falling down from height (airplane, sports like flying or climbing etc) So, from considerations of probability it’s quite safe to drink alcohol compared to other intentionally exposed risks. lol

A lot of percentages in that article. One that was missing is that beer is usually about 5% alcohol and alcohol kills germs. So drinking beer probably does more good than harm!

Yes, we all die of something. I have looked for respected accurate and comprehensive charts of what we will die of by country - but so far no luck. You'd think the medical professions around the world could tell us.

such gloom makes you wanna drink more

Living in the 21st not heisei the fun as percentage.

Only 4%, that’s of almost no relevance,

On the opposite, if 4% of all the deaths by cancer are related to a single cause that is a huge amount of deaths world wide. 6.3 million cases per year are related to alcohol, even if half of them were prevented that would still be a huge lot of people saved.

Interesting that Belarus, Moldova, Russia, and Romania made the list. I have consumed the firewater made in those countries and experienced esophageal and liver damage. It is believable that regular consumption could damage the organs enough to cause cancer. Nazdarovye!

Cancer cells feed on sugar, drinkers consume less sweets and actually have positive impact on global

cancer cases. ....so bottle is healthier than cake..

The good old cancer,

the list of Foods and drinks that causes cancer is a bout 5 meter long, and what it tells us is that if you eat or drink too much of anything it will eventually KILL YOU, that simple.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Hhmmm, if that's the case then is it ok just to smell it?

Bad enough alcohol causes diabetes and a lot of other illnesses. My dad virtually became legless due to his alcohol consumption. Do we really need cancer to tell us drinking too much is a bad thing?

Let be honest. Most stuff we consume has somehow according to research give people cancer. Anything fried in oil apparently give you cancer. Or eating too muchbbq will also give cancer. And the list go on and on.

People have been drinking alconhol since ancient times. If you think you can scare them by saying they could get cancer, clearly you underestimate our stubbornness. A person once told me this: do not fear what might kill you, but instead live your life like it's your last day with no regrets. There are billions of ways to die if one is unlucky.

And yet alcohol is legal in most societies, and cannabis isn't. When looked at it from a logical point of view, it's baffling.

Although a review of history shows it to be the politics of economics where it made some people who had power more money to make cannabis illegal, than to let it continue to be legal. Their thirst for power has resulted in cancer in a significant number of people over the past 100 years, due to not being able to go with a safer alternative.

This poem I remember in elementary school went 'Don't do this, you might ****', and the last verse said,

'Don't live, you might die'.

Cannabis is legal for all purposes in Canada, with the restrictions of DUI laws, out in the open and adult age. And it's not physically addictive like alcohol can be and it doesn't cause cancer. It's a bonanza cash crop there now, particularly for their First Nations indigeneous people. And yes, moderation is the key.

The colloquial version of this is much more concise: YOLO.

Canada is the leader when it comes to rational thinking on this matter. They are dealing with cannabis in a modern, scientific manner, rather than lingering hysteria from the 1920s that people regurgitate because it's what they were told. Then they go get drunk.

Alcohol causes cancer, yep.

How many?

Is it more than the number of fatalities caused by alcohol on the road? How about death as a result of domestic abuse induced by alcohol? What about cases of lives destroyed by drunken rape?

On a scale of harm caused, alcohol out classes other drugs like Heroin or Cocaine.

I have yet to read whether the occasional beer, glass of wine, and/or mixed drink is dangerous. I hope not. A cold drink once in a while is a welcome relief.

Alcoholic beverages are not all equal. Spirits which burn the throat when imbibed are palpably more dangerous and hazardous for the internal organs than beer or even wine so moderation, self-observation and self-control is the only "safe" way to drink. Cheers!

Alcohol fuels fungal growth.

Quit it and watch your skin clean up.

Those numbers are so tiny compared to the number of people in the world.

On a day that’s been so hot, those pints look very tasty!

But what about all of the people who drink and don't get cancer?

Does that mean that alcohol prevents cancer in some or many cases?

I will take a drink and ponder that.

I quit drinking 5 years ago; looking forward to living 10 extra years because of it.
