Yes, I agree with the above poster. I have always struggled to keep my weight down even though I followed a low fat low sugar diet. I then decided about 6 months ago to try something different. I started eating full fat foods and at the same time restricting my rice intake at dinner to only 3-4 tablespoons. I allow myself as much meat and vegetables as I like with that. You probably think I feel hungry after eating such a small amount of carbohydrates but I don't! I have lost about 9kg with absolutely no struggle. I actually am quite shocked by the weight loss. But I realise that it doesn't mean I am internally healthy.

Cholesterol has always been essential to your health. But flawed studies led to decades of cholesterol misinformation by incomplete analysis. The nutrition community supported the Cholesterol Theory also called the Lipid Hypothesis and accepted the flawed studies and warned people to remove fatty food from their diets. The fact is the human body is made up of trillions of cells that need to interact with each other, and cholesterol is one of the molecules needed for these interactions to take place. Therefore it produces cell membranes, vitamin D, hormones, and bile acids that are important in digesting fats. Also cholesterol helps in your neurological function and memory formation. In the end high cholesterol is only a sign of inflammation so if there is inflammation in your system like arteries, your body produces cholesterol and releases it in your bloodstream to replace the cells and to restore the damage.

Finally! Although the saturated fat guidelines are still ridiculous. Even 10% saturated fat per day is too low for essential bodily functions. 8% is ridiculous. When are they going to admit that too many carbs ( especially processed carbs ) in the diet are the main cause of heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol etc?

7-11 Cleo...they always have butter here, but none to be found in Life or Seiyu. Real food - butter, eggs, steak, wont hurt you, but the fake sweetener, margerine and so on is not meant for human consumption.

@Strangerland

I'd recommend buttering your toast before you put eggs on top.

It's easier that way! : )

some of most everything is good and too much of any one thing is bad. Duh! Cholesterol, like everything else, falls into the latter category

As it says in the article:

We have known for many years that cholesterol levels are impacted primarily by genetics and high saturated fat intake and not by intake of dietary cholesterol.

In this case, they are saying that intake of cholesterol does not correlate with the amount of cholesterol in the blood. So your premise is incorrect.

Mountainpear, I'm sure your blood values have improved, good job!

Talk about "authorities" taking forever to catch up with what truly educated people know. It was demonstrated years ago the serum levels of cholesterol have little to nothing to do with cholesterol intake, and that cholesterol is very important to health. Trying to tell that to the brainwashed masses of sheeple is an exercise in futility though. The same goes for the lipid hypothesis, which long ago was exposed as being a scam, the man who started it all having fudged and/or thrown out data that proved the exact opposite.

Assuming you've got the butter....I went to three supermarkets today, not a pack of butter to be found. Again. :(

Official dietary advice changes almost weekly. Frankly, it is all nonsense. A varied diet, with a bit of everything - but not too much of anything - is all you need to remember. We neither need nor want all these government-sponsored nannies and busybodies.

Interesting how the frenzied media locks in on only a piece of 'evidence', ignoring the sage advice of medical experts and parents, who say, just as B Adams said abv, that some of most everything is good and too much of any one thing is bad. Duh! Cholesterol, like everything else, falls into the latter category. C builds up in arteries and calcifies over time, creating blockages. You don't have to believe me; check with yr doctor or better yet, yr cardiologist; I did.

You didn't read the part about saturated fats and animal-based foods, did you?
