Aspartame... pure poison. I've got two friends with asthma who find that it triggers an asthma attack without fail, and another who get migraines within 2 hours of drinking anything containing aspartame. Personally I just find the taste revolting and the idea of drinking diet cola to be ridiculous. I'll either drink a normal cola or I'll make a choice to be healthy and drink some green tea or water. Trying to fool myself that diet cola is the "healthy" option is like saying "Ooohhh, I mustn't shoot myself in the head, its much healthier to shoot myself in the foot!"... both are unhealthy.

Aspartame will give me a migraine headache within minutes. It's not safe for me.

Tobacco and oil industries followed the same policy of denying harmful effects of their products and branding the studies to the contrary as inconclusive until the truth could no longer be contained. The same will sooner or later happen to artificial sweeteners. Coke is drinkable only because its unpalatability is masked by tons of sugar or sweeteners, and in turn its nauseating sweetness has to be offset by a hideous amount of phosphoric acid.

Apartame received FDA approval thanks to the work of our good buddy Donald Rumsfield. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robbie-gennet/donald-rumsfeld-and-the-s_b_805581.html

Every now and then, to wake up your sleepy taste buds or if you have a bit of cotton mouth, then it's fine, other than that, ice cold Water is still by far one of the best drinks around.

I think the correct word should be "Artificial" not "Fake"

@Badsey3

Are you trying to be ironic or funny? Here's the conclusion of your "definitive study."

"The inconsistent sex effects and occurrence of an apparent cancer risk in individuals who consume REGULAR soda do not permit the ruling out of chance as an explanation."

But thanks for supporting my argument. Cheers, mate. None of your studies confirm any dangers in humans. In rats, yes, but other studies have determined that the mechanism that gave rats cancer is non-existent humans.

We repeatedly assessed diet in the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (HPFS). Over 22 years, we identified 1324 non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs), 285 multiple myelomas, and 339 leukemias. We calculated incidence RRs and 95% CIs by using Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS: When the 2 cohorts were combined, there was no significant association between soda intake and risks of NHL and multiple myeloma. However, in men, ≥1 daily serving of diet soda increased risks of NHL (RR: 1.31; 95% CI: 1.01, 1.72) and multiple myeloma (RR: 2.02; 95% CI: 1.20, 3.40) in comparison with men who did not consume diet soda. We observed no increased risks of NHL and multiple myeloma in women. We also observed an unexpected elevated risk of NHL (RR: 1.66; 95% CI: 1.10, 2.51) with a higher consumption of regular, sugar-sweetened soda in men but not in women. In contrast, when sexes were analyzed separately with limited power, neither regular nor diet soda increased risk of leukemia but were associated with increased leukemia risk when data for men and women were combined (RR for consumption of ≥1 serving of diet soda/d when the 2 cohorts were pooled: 1.42; 95% CI: 1.00, 2.02). CONCLUSION: Although our findings preserve the possibility of a detrimental effect of a constituent of diet soda, such as aspartame, on select cancers, the inconsistent sex effects and occurrence of an apparent cancer risk in individuals who consume regular soda do not permit the ruling out of chance as an explanation.

@badsey3

Nice paste and cut. Which still says there is no proven link. Now my turn (from Wiki):

"Blaylock (in the youtube video) has endorsed views inconsistent with the scientific consensus"

"Blaylock opposes the use of vaccines"

"Blaylock suggests that Vitamin D, fish oil and antioxidants are effective against the flu. According to McGill University's Joe Schwarcz, there is no evidence for these claims"

"Blaylock ...has suggested that health-care reform efforts under President Obama are masterminded by extragovernmental groups that wish to impose euthanasia."

Yep, he's a wingnut. Badsey, you just make my arguments stronger and stronger.

ill stick with sugar, it grows like, in a field ... it was never an experimental toxin of anyone accoring to anyone and if i dont wanna get too fat ... i'll either train it off if i cant get a girlfriend or girlfriend it off if i can. My consumption of actual coca cola is less than one bottle per two weeks im not really worried, you should go more for resistance training

Corn syrup or sugar are way, way, way, way worse for the body than artificial sweeteners. So if you crave Coke, have one with aspertame.

After about a trillion gallons of diet soda consumed over the years, there hasn't been a single documented medical case pointing to any health problems in humans caused by artificial sweeteners. Most of the critics are internet wingnuts with no medical background.
