Since they rarely use them for phone calls, I figure anyone under the age of 30 is probably safe from this hazard if it exists.

I know many people who sleep with their phones beside their head or on their chest, and since smartphones are constantly connected to cell phone towers nearby to maintain the connection, they are giving off EMF radiation . Even though it is not as much radiation as when you are talking on a phone, it is still radiation!

I used to work for "X "phone company ,,,,and the first thing they told me ,,,give them a (cheap) headphones,,,so they cannot sue us when cancer(early 2000),,,,then stopped using and turning off wifi and phones in my living and bedroom night when I slept!

RF exposure depends on usage factors.

Handsfree (speaker, headset) mitigates the proximity of the head to the phone's antennas of which radiated power is proportional to the distance from base statons.

Using headsets by default is advisable.
