with the statistically ESTABLISHED FACT that smokers, daily tobacco smokers, do not catch the COVID virus. They are calling it the "Smoker's Paradox" but it's not a 'paradox' at all, it's the simple result of the chronic inflammation, increased mucus, and the chemical hostility of the smoke itself.

Tell that to Shimura Ken, the popular Japanese comedian who caught Covid and died just a year ago this week. He was known to be a heavy smoker.

A strange discussion when at the same time NY officially and intentionally legalizes smoking of former illegal drugs. And those probably don’t even help a bit against corona.

@Cleo

I miss that kind man. So funny and a real animal lover. The smoke would have gotten him eventually.

There is now a massive wave of cognitive dissonance afflicting our physicians as they grapple with the statistically ESTABLISHED FACT that smokers, daily tobacco smokers, do not catch the COVID virus. They are calling it the "Smoker's Paradox" but it's not a 'paradox' at all, it's the simple result of the chronic inflammation, increased mucus, and the chemical hostility of the smoke itself. Respiratory viruses, in general, do not do well in such an environment. Again, this is just the usual irony which our hubris brings to us every so often. Understand that this is not to say smoking is 'good' for anyone, just to add a note of caution to ANY blanket condemnation Humans have made. The term "Smoker's Paradox" was coined a generation ago to give a label to the greater short-term survival of smokers after a myocardial infarction. And, now, a new one. Maybe those campy scenes in movies of 'primitive' shamans waving smoke in sick people's faces really has a basis in physical reality and Human health...
