You can destroy a person's will to live by telling them they're going to get Alzheimer's, when in fact they may never get it at all.

That’s bare of any logic. If that would be the case, everyone would already have his will to live destroyed when hearing that there is a death out there and everyone will be affected by it not only by risk but for absolutely sure. lol

It could be the case that the knowledge that you will die is holding you back. Who knows?

The opposite, it is just human nature and a big part of why professionals that deal with this kind of (yet) untreatable degenerative diseases require a lot of training to be able to deal with it. It is not the same to say that eventually everybody dies but you can do a lot to delay that from happening and telling a person they are going to simply lose their minds and become a burden for their families and there is nothing anybody can do to delay it even a little.
