new round of $1,200 stimulus checks

Still waiting for the last round of checks here. Nobody I've asked had received it either.

Read elsewhere they are hoping for 50% effectiveness. That's like a 50% accurate pregnancy test. Good new! If you are a man, you aren't pregnant. Way to take the guesswork out.

Hopefully, your family isn't in the 50% where the vaccine fails.

I'll get vaccinated at some point, but the effectivity will matter in the choice for when. I'm a huge believer in vaccines, effective vaccines. Was looking over my vaccine records just yesterday to see it is time for some 10yr boosters and my yellow fever cert has expired. Here, the Yellow Fvr is expensive, so I only get that when planning a trip to specific parts of the world.

Most routine childhood vaccines are effective for 85% to 95% of recipients.

@Monty

There are a lot of different vaccines being developed. Even with positive preliminary results most of them are expected to fail in the end because of a number of reasons, for example protection not lasting for too long, protection not generated depending on age, possible side effects etc. If we're lucky out of the 100+ vaccines being developed a couple might provide lasting protection. In order to make sure that vaccines are safe a number of trials need to be conducted, starting from small and increasing the number of people tested at every stage. Each stage of these trials takes a few months to conclude. If one of the vaccines that are on the final stage mentioned in the article prove to be safe and provide lasting protection it still needs to be approved and mass produced in the millions. That's why even if we're lucky the soonest the vaccine can start circulating is around spring-summer 2021...

All the different news about vaccine makes me confused.

Are we getting some soon, or will it take a few more years or will get never a vaccine?

The many different news are so confusing....
