It may just be repeating the obvious, but this is exactly why extraordinary efforts are justified when trying to limit the spreading of the infection between the general population. Many people have the mistaken beliefs that you can just focus on the vulnerable population and you could protect them even if the infection is running rampant, this is not true, there is no realistic way to prevent one segment of the population from being infected if everybody else is, the only real strategy is to controls the spreading as much as possible so everybody (including those more at risk) can be spared from the infection.

In the end it’ll just go down as a new norm. Tired and having spent billions while unsuccessfully beating the virus the powers that be will just hang up their gloves. It’ll exist alongside the flu. In the meantime the authorities will give it their best to control the spreading of this virus if for no other reason than to save their political skin.
