Question. How come we never had this level of economy killing and stress causing social distancing and mask wearing and lockdowns for any other virus?

From what I have read over the past 6 months or so is that COVID-19 is more easily transmittable than the two most recent similar coronaviruses (SARS and MERS).

True, but that doesn't merit ruining the economy and people's lives, causing untold deaths and suffering.
