As most who read these articles in JapanToday already know, the pace of scientific advancement in the medical field is truly astounding.
Case in point: one of my sons-in-law was told he had a 2% chance of surviving cancer for another five years, even after multiple surgeries. He was offered the chance to try an experimental therapy which so far had shown about 30% effectiveness. Having nothing to lose, he chose the experimental therapy. That was over 5 years ago, and today they cannot detect any traces of the cancer. If that isn't an example of a new weapon against cancer succeeding, I don't know what is.
