In the developed world, almost entirely due to either religious factors or irrational fear of vaccines. Always amazes me how anti-vaxxers claim their own special source of knowledge and ignore medical advice. Kind of like climate change deniers, except that anti-vaxxers and climate change deniers are hardly ever the same people.

It is a shame that children have to pay for their parents' ignorance, but it has always been so.

Why do the the Vaccinated feel so threatened by the unvaccinated ? If your are so convinced that your Vaccines work what do you care if someone is unvaccinated ? It's a curious thing indeed !

Why do the the Vaccinated feel so threatened by the unvaccinated ?

Because they spread disease. They are unclean.

Measles Vaccines can also kill.

Also, vaccines are not magic potions.

In addition:

86 cases reported from 19 states; 4 outbreaks

• 97% cases import-associated

• Of the 18 direct importations, 12 were U.S. residents, 6 were foreign visitors

73% were outbreak-related

• Outbreaks ranged in size from 6 to 32 cases

Cases among U.S. residents (N=55)

• 56%unvaccinated

• 18%unknownvaccinationstatus

• 26%vaccinated

Vaccines are magic potions. That's the bleedin' point.

Up until the 1960s measles, rubella, diphtheria and polio were all something parents had to be concerned about with their children. Now they're not, or weren't until recently. Most people aren't old enough to remember kids walking around with one leg in a caliper, that leg left shorter than the other by polio, enduring months immobilised in iron lungs, left with a raft of physical problems which were going to manifest themselves as the kids became adults and grew old. Smallpox, a genuine killer, was eradicated by the smallpox vaccine. If the vaccine hadn't been invented and administered, we'd still be having mass smallpox epidemics in parts of the world. It's that simple.

No-one who believes vaccines are poisons or cause autism is going to be interested in the facts or the science, but here's a Wiki article just in case.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccine-preventable_diseases

I'll just quote a bit of it:

In 2012, the World Health Organization estimated that vaccination prevents 2.5 million deaths each year.[2] With 100% immunization, and 100% efficacy of the vaccines, one out of seven deaths among young children could be prevented, mostly in developing countries, making this an important global health issue.

To compare measles to polio is like comparing the flu to AIDS.

If vaccines are so magical, why does the government hand out 4 billion dollars to families who were injured by them?

here is a link to the vaccine injury government program in the US: https://www.benefits.gov/ben

here is their budget: https://www.hrsa.gov/about/budget/index.html

so magical

@BigYen

It's sad that otherwise intelligent people are so quick to buy media propaganda that they make the most foolish statements and accept the most obvious lies. NO ONE DOUBTS THE EFFICACY OF VACCINATION!!! Can we get THAT settled. Edward Jenner shot up his children with cowpox, Human experimentation really, but Smallpox was defeated. Other terrible diseases also have succumbed to induced immunocompetence. What is doubted are the protocols employed to administer vaccinations. The American profitcare/healthcare system has never been MORE Corporate nor MORE corrupt than it is now. Part of the high cost of American healthcare is the cost of malpractice insurance because of the avalanche of tort (injury) cases which this system has seen in the last two generations. Where people go foolish is letting the Corporate media, business partners of Big Med and especially Big Pharma (advertising), turn their heads to the idea that people protecting their children are vaccine averse. This is untrue. These people are Healthcare system averse, terrified by a system killing iatrogenically ~250,000 Americans from ALL types of backgrounds but the lower and middle classes the most. The term "Anti-vaxxer" is right out of some Corporate marketing department. The MMR is a case in point. A one-size-fits-all injection which dumps three powerful antigens PLUS an 'immune supercharger' called an adjuvant into an immature immune system. The adjuvant alone will push the system into a minor frenzy. Add the three antigens and you've just hit a nascent, developing immune system with the biological equivalent of a thermobaric missile. But it's cheaper, more 'cost effective'. Better for them the providers. not so good for the few who develop cross reactions immediately nor those who develop cross reactive 'memory' cells whose activation many years later produces, say, MS or Lupus or Parkinson's or Huntington's or Ulcerative colitis or [quite a long list of autoimmune diseases of possible cross reactive origin]. The immune response produced by current Corporate protocols can be so intense in a given individual baby that they produce an overly broad immune reaction producing many weaker specificities among the memory cells which can easily overlap in their molecular shape specificities which the body may produce in a more mature form. Or, more rarely, the effects may be seen almost immediately but denied by Authority because Authority has so many easily bamboozled minds to feed its lies. What is the REASON that Big Pharma insists on 'No Liability' contracts for vaccines? Because EVERY OTHER PRODUCT of Big Pharma has SIDE EFFECTS in some people. Is this not likely true of their immune concoctions as well, designed to be profitable above all else? Remember, Big Pharma is Corporate and, by definition and by Law, has no altruism, sympathy, nor conscience. Such motivations might affect profits and is illegal under American Corporate Law. Again, NO ONE DOUBTS THE EFFICACY OF VACCINATION!!! Just the people who do it and their methods and motives. Do you trust Corporate with your infant? Not everyone does.

Oh, and if you have any doubts about "cross reactions" look up BCG (TB antigen) and bladder cancer. This is the only 'good' one we know where an antigen induces a cross immunological reaction in a completely different tissue. There seem to be no end to 'bad' cross reactions.

NO ONE DOUBTS THE EFFICACY OF VACCINATION!!! Just the people who do it and their methods and motives.

Oh, nonsense. Plenty of people doubt the efficacy of vaccinations, if within the definition of "efficacy" we include its long term safety - and why would we exclude that? Anti-vaxxers (I'll keep using that term, it sums up these people nicely) like Taylor Winterstein make a career out of spruiking $200 "information workshops" CREATING fear where no fear existed before. Lots of anti "Big Pharma" people are doing very well out of creating fear, thank you.

I'm not an American, so I can't comment on the American healthcare system, except to say that to me it's never seemed like anything worth emulating. But here in Australia, and worldwide I'd guess, there is a whole hippy/anti-Big Pharma cohort who are resistant to scientific evidence, even when it potentially harms their kids and their society in general. I am amazed at people who keep the blinkers on so they don't have to look at the overwhelming evidence demonstrating the overall benefits of immunization. I mentioned only some of the diseases which humankind has managed to defeat or keep at bay thanks to the ingenuity and research of our scientists, an effort now reduced to the status of Big Pharma stooges by a few "otherwise intelligent people".

You acknowledge the good work that's been done by vaccination. How can you be so blinded by your Big Pharma bogeyman that you fail to see that most of the anti-vaccination crowd today is motivated mainly by anti-scientific ignorance, along with their lack of knowledge of the terrible toll so many preventable diseases have wrought so recently in human society? And if you reduce the entirety of medical knowledge and practice to the catch-all dismissive phrase of "Big Pharma" with its additional negative payload of "corporate" then who is there left to trust with your own health and that of your family? Taylor Winterstein?

Why do the the Vaccinated feel so threatened by the unvaccinated ?

People who are unvaccinated for highly contagious vaccine-preventable are a threat to public health. They are at higher risk of infection, and when infected, they spread the disease.

However, many of the unvaccinated are children are the unwitting victims of their parents' ignorance, irresponsibility, and selfishness. It is antivaccine agitators who are causing much of the harm, spreading lies, foolishness, and antiscience gibberish, and actively working to create the conditions for disease to spread.

If your are so convinced that your Vaccines work what do you care if someone is unvaccinated ?

Are you saying I shouldn't care if an unvaccinated child is disabled or injured by vaccine-preventable disease? I don't quite follow your reasoning.

@William Bjornson

I am very sorry but almost every single thing in your post is either wrong, misinterpreted or a plain lie that some people want you to believe.

Big pharma is corrupt? then they should be against vaccines, treating an infection is hugely more profitable than selling the vaccine.

A quarter of a million people killed by treatment every year? sorry, that has already been proved false because of improper methods in the research, the real figure is at much 10 times less and probably not even that.

Three antigens and an adjuvant are a "supercharger" of the immunity? that is simply false, there is absolutely no data to sustain it, a kid playing outside gets exposed to hundreds of new antigens in much higher doses and have a much stronger immune reaction, but that is not a problem because that is how the system is supposed to work. Not having a "minor frenzy" with every single new antigen is called immuno deficiency.

Cross reactivity giving autoimmune problems? yeah, but in much less frequency with a vaccine than with a natural infection that exposes the body to ten times more antigens in much higher doses. Being vaccinated ALSO prevents this complication even if not perfectly. At the end of the day that is what you need to prove, not that vaccines are absolutely free of risk (nothing is) but that they are more risky than not vaccinating, that is not the case for any currently available vaccine.

Big pharma is not the one benefited by the "no liability" policy, public health is. Instead of losing even more money to prove that a vaccine have nothing to do with a kid dying from something that is very clearly not related it is unfortunately more efficient just giving money to people so the rest can get their safe health intervention without trouble, of course when something can be proved clearly above the most irrational doubt then it stops being covered by this policy (like autism).

At the end this conspiracy makes no sense, it depends on literally thousands and thousands of doctors, nurses, scientists, epidemiologist, etc. to give something risky and unnecessary to their own children just so their bosses can get rich. Would you do that? if not, why would you think thousands of people that know much more than you about the topic happily keep doing it?

@ Wipeout = Are you saying I shouldn't care if an unvaccinated child is disabled or injured by vaccine-preventable disease? I don't quite follow your reasoning.

What if a child IS damaged/disabled by a Vaccine should you care ?

It's the most basic human right for each of us to decide what goes into our own bodies. Wouldn't you agree Dr Goebbills ?

Tell me is getting jabbed with a needle introducing toxins directly into the bloodstream how the immune system is supposed to work ?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Are you saying I shouldn't care if an unvaccinated child is disabled or injured by vaccine-preventable disease?

Obviously not. It wasn't me who posed a question starting "Why should you care if....". If your memory's really that short, allow me to jog it: that was you. I answered in order to point out the gaping flaw in your assumption.

Most claims of vaccine injury are entirely spurious. You and Mr Bjornson in this thread are a handy reminder of that. By attempting to show, in your scattergun way, that vaccines in general are actually harmful to young children, you're rejecting all the evidence and data that shows otherwise. Or do you accept that you're wildly exaggerating, and that in reality there are vastly fewer real cases than you imply?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Tell me is getting jabbed with a needle introducing toxins directly into the bloodstream how the immune system is supposed to work ?

Where did you get the impression that vaccines are injected into the bloodstream? It's not street smack.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Tell me is getting jabbed with a needle introducing toxins directly into the bloodstream how the immune system is supposed to work ?

Yes, that is how it is (grossly) supposed to work, and do it every single day of your life, vaccines are simply much easier to notice because of the volume in which the antigens are diluted for ease of handling. Leave a child playing in the yard for a few minutes and he will get ten times more antigens injected directly to the bloodstream, including natural adjuvants. All of it without him or anybody else noticing anything.

Yeah, the skin is good and everything, but its much less of a barrier than what apparently you like to think. Study immunology before trying to say how it does or not work.
