Rice don't need to start worrying their favourite is gonna disappear any time soon, there hasn't been any consistent proof that Global Warming is real, before all "true believers" start making comments that facts are for every expert making a case for Global Warming there is another expert claiming there's no such thing.

Global warming may have 'devastating' effects on rice

.. and so may global cooling.

Global warming? Ha! You’ll be telling us that smoking causes lung cancer, next!

The article isn't about global warming, its about the effects of atmospheric CO2 on the protein and nutrient content of rice, which is independent of climate change (though both are caused by CO2).

Other than that though I think your informative comment is spot on: as you correctly state, rice doesn't need to worry that its favorite is going to disappear. Rice is not an animate object capable of feeling emotions such as worry, so such concerns would clearly not be applicable to it.

Increasing CO2 in the atmosphere

Societies that depend a lot on rice would be in trouble

They may have to change their diet and culture

for every expert making a case for Global Warming there is another expert claiming there's no such thing.

In science, there will always be conflicting studies

Would ya believe that there are also studies that show stuff we consider to be carcinogenic, that they aren't carcinogenic

But would people try eating those anyway just because of that?

That's why we go for whichever conclusion that a majority of studies produce the consistent results - the best we can hope for is a consensus

If the majority of studies consistently produce that global average temperature is rising, then we go with that

The big question is not whether if global warming is happening --the consensus is that the Earth's temperature is changing higher (the Earth's temperature is always changing)-- but rather whether if human activities (the most inventive species Earth has ever hosted) are significantly accelerating it or the human effect is not significant (there is always be some effect - that's inevitable; the issue is the amount of significance)

If one can believe that humans can significantly affect with increasing the CO2 in the atmosphere, then it's not too much stretch to believe that humans can affect other things with significance

After all, it wouldn't be the first time organisms' activities affected the Earth with significance (ex: billions of years ago, ancient cyanobacteria changed Earth's atmosphere from sulfuric to oxygenic - a change without which we wouldn't be existing today)

The 1% will not be affected by this, so don't expect them to do anything about it.

High temperatures in recent years have already affected the quality of the koshihikari variety of rice grown in Niigata. It has been on the Japanese tv news several times.

there hasn't been any consistent proof that Global Warming is real

There has been consistent proof for a few decades now.

I’ll be looking forward to eating Japanese locally produced Basmati and Thai rice......no problem!
