This is a well known process that originated a lot of very interesting discussions about ethics and how the result of sampling that would be considered unethical right now should be treated.

This means that the benefits of the samples are preserved and are being useful right now, but it also means that the field of medical ethics also advanced thanks to this real-world situation being so carefully considered.
