Sure, knowing about back pain helps in following the Do's and Don'ts to prevent or recover from back pain. But what about lazy people? I know of a good technique for lazy people to prevent back pain. It's called Tummy Time for Adults .

It sucks. I can get it from being careless in the gym or long international flights in economy.

I had suffered back pain for many years. About 20 years ago I had X-rays taken at a University hospital when it was discovered I had a six vertebrae lower lumber and a herniated disk. Never heard about it until then. Nothing could be done about it except pain management.

My doctor prescribes painkillers but I try not to take them too often. I have a very good local osteopath who provides treatment.

During my tenure in ICI Wilton as part of my Chem Eng degree, we did an industrial course of preventing lower back pain. Industrial labs then required lifting of heavy items. I learned a lot back then and can testify that education about the problem is the best thing to do to prevent it.

This article wasn't very helpful. Still don't really know how to apply "pain education" for back pain. Coulda used a lot more specifics here.

If you get lower back pain just go on youtube, you will soon find a LOT of different simple stretching, bending excercises you can do, try some, take it slow & stick to the ones that bring you relief, for most the pain will reduce quite quickly & be gone in a week or so.

I have this happen with some frequency, especially in winter for years, hit me in Jan & in a week I had completely forgotten I had it, you can thank me later.

Knowledge is a very powerful weapon, and disease and disability are a very good target to fight against. In the article is clearly mentioned how knowledge about back pain can help not only choose the best treatment but also prevent it, adopting simple measures that reduce the risk of having debilitating pain. For some people even the simple fact of understanding their pain is enough to provide some relief.
