Flumist booked for me - November 13th. Don't like needles. Really didn't enjoy getting my Moderna Jab.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says just about everybody needs an annual flu vaccination, starting with 6-month-old babies.

Never had a flu vaccine in my life. Not going to start now!

US leader vowed to ‘follow the science’ but Covid-19 boosters seem to be driven by politics:

No, not just driven by politics, more by unlimited profits..

People simply cannot pull themselves away from insatiable lust for money, attractive money, magnetic money..

Flu vaccines seem mostly useless for most people. (likely helpful to some demographics though)

Efficacy is about 50-60% I think I read

The two years I got that jab in the past were the two years I got influenza

When I stopped, only family members who got the jab, got the flu. Too small a sample to say that this means anything statistically but seems like a waste of time.

I'm not saying it's a big conspiracy, I just can't help but think "why bother?"

more cash for big-pharma I guess

Is the flu still a problem? Haven't the flu cases been extremely low since SARSCoV2 showed up?

I'll be avoiding both vaccines: the flu vax is relatively safe but unnecessary, the covid vax has some benefit but not worth the risk for me...

Probably don't need it, but at least it's pretty safe.

I was suffering every year of flu up to 2008 for decades, also had trouble frequently with bronchitis, one time even pneumonia with high fever and I spent several days in the hospital.

Since then I receive the flu vaccine every year, and every 5 years the vaccine against pneumonia.

I could not believe it, but since 2008 I am totally troublefree, never been infected again, not even a single time. It helps. I was surprised, those both vaccines are really helpful for me, just my experience.

Up to everybody of course, if they want it or not. Nobody should be forced into any vaccination of course.

If you had read the article the reasons would be obvious, people keep forgetting that vaccines and many other preventive measures are best used before things become a problem, not after.

more cash for big-pharma I guess

The opposite, every case prevented means lost money, if profit was the main reason then the less vaccines used would be the better.

Imagine thinking something can reduce in half the chances of having a couple of miserable weeks (or much worse) "useless", in reality their efficacy is much higher in most years. Which is why health experts routinely recommend them.

Probably don't need it, but at least it's pretty safe.

Compare rates adjusted for age and preexisting conditions, if you consider influenza vaccines safe you will be surprised how safe COVID vaccines are

Not really. I have a pretty good idea how safe COVID vaccines are, which is why I won't go near them. And ask yourself why so many medical professionals refuse to get them as well. New York is having to call in the National Guard because thousands of doctors and nurses refuse to take them.

Riiight... I guess you missed the news:

"Moderna’s vaccine profits propel three new names onto Forbes’s list of the 400 richest Americans."

Wow, the anti-vaccine brigade really crawled out of the woodwork today!

Just the same misunderstanding/ignorance on display as with the COVID vaccine.

Had my annual flu jab last week (free of charge of course), just like every year for decades, having had full blown influenza (not a fluey cold) I really don’t want to repeat the experience.

Asked my lady doc about it two days ago. Not available until December if that.

I had mine three weeks ago.

Correct procedure @Luddite. Especially this year as we effectively bypassed flu last season with all the social distancing in place. If only the crackpot anti vaxxers would act the same and realise its THIS winter that we have to get through to put this to bed.

Good then @rainman 8:01pm. Btw: @ian had some ‘fair’ comments about the balance of things @BB, @BL & @RB. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion (except for one criticizing the media or not the same as those in moderation, I guess.)* “**Best to You*” and others, mate!

*- @rainman1 9:00pm: “Yes, I agree and have never suggested otherwise” -*

Not really. I have a pretty good idea how safe COVID vaccines are, which is why I won't go near them.

Yes really, refusing to do something that disproves your mistaken idea gives also a pretty good idea why you keep making that mistake. If the experts say you are wrong precisely with the argument you are trying to ignore it would mean your refusal is based precisely in false information.

Riiight... I guess you missed the news:

How does that disprove that treatments are hugely more profitable than vaccines? if one company makes big profits with a vaccine a hundred times more would be made without any of them.

Yes, yes they are.

Which still means the alternative is to increase the risk of literally becoming sick to death.

When was the last time you heard about the flu in the news. It's all covid now, remember?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

I'll just avoid both.

And that is why vaccination is being recommended, to keep the easier to control pathogen being functionally eradicated so hospitals do not need to deal with simultaneous epidemics during winter. With a lot of luck and higher vaccination rates even the expected peak of COVID may be low.

I'll just avoid both.

As you are free to do, not everybody can make rational decisions or do things that also benefit others.
