Oh! Who would have seen this coming - "nutrition scientists" pretending to be baffled by the WELL DOCUMENTED dangers of seed oils, as if the science hasn't been clear for a long time. These INDUSTRIAL WASTE BY-PRODUCTS - yes, that's what they are - are packed with excessive omega-6 fatty acids that throw off our body's delicate omega-3/omega-6 balance, fueling chronic inflammation, heart disease, and obesity. When heated, they oxidize and form toxic aldehydes, which have been linked to neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

The facts they're pretending this is some "new" or "controversial" claim rather than a basic fact that desperately needs to be suppressed shows this is a this isn’t about "science" at all, it's a thinly-veiled hit piece - about damage control. When RFK and other independent voices expose the truth, the corporate machine kicks into high gear, rolling out its paid experts to gaslight the public into thinking the real problem is the people daring to challenge the status quo. The only thing baffling here is how long they expect people to keep swallowing their lies - both figuratively and literally.

'Canola' is rapeseed oil outside the US.
Switching back to animal fats isn't going to happen. It will lose too many customers.
Ignore anything any US government politician says for the duration of the Trump regime and you'll be fine.
fallaffel
Yes, we get it, butter and beef tallow are good, seeds are bad. The anti science crowd seems to have a lot of knowledge about our bodies' delicate omega-3/omega-6 balance. I'm impressed!

Oh great, it's one of these "the scientists and experts are all lying" trope again... How utterly boring.
Nevermind the factual improbability of having scientists all over the world, from Canada to Burundi, agree on the same conspiracy. Nevermind that if you actually read the article, the answer to the whole issue is plainly and clearly explained: Food scientists agree that consumption of seed oils has increased, but they say that's because they're widely used in fried and fast foods and ultraprocessed foods, which make up nearly three-quarters of the U.S. food supply. Those foods, which have been linked to a host of health problems, also include high levels of refined grains, added sugars and sodium.
So yeah, nevermind all that. The only thing that matters is that only a select few, who have of course never oepened a science book in their lives, much less done any form of scientific research, know the REAL TRUTH. "Everyone is lying and only I am right!"
Also, anyone who says olive oil is bad is clearly clinically insane.
Jay
LOL the irony in sneering about "anti-science" while parroting the same corporate-backed nonsense that’s been peddled for decades - despite mountains of research exposing the dangers of seed oils!
Industrially processed, chemically extracted, and packed with unstable polyunsaturated fats, these oils oxidize in the body, fueling inflammation, metabolic disorders, and even heart disease - coincidentally the VERY conditions the pharmaceutical conglomerates profit from. Meanwhile, coconut and natural animal fats have been part of the human diet for millennia without issue.
But sure, enjoy your "science-based" falafels soaked in canola oil if makes you feel good.
Jay
No one is saying olive oil is bad, genius. Quick biochemistry 101 lesson for you: highly unstable polyunsaturated fats like olive oil - here we go - turn rancid with HEAT and become carcinogenic. Does that make sense, or should I type in all caps to make it easier?
fallaffel
It's more of a chuckle than a sneer. I'm grateful that something as harmless as this is occupying the "smarter than the scientists" crowd's time.
I'veSeenFootage
(He writes, before proceeding to wrongly explain how bad olive oil is.)
Maybe you should type it in an even more agressive and insulting tone, so you get banned again?
I don't?!? I don't remember saying that anywhere, ever. But hey, every accusation is an admission with you people, so...
I'm healthy and in great shape. That's about it.
virusrex
There is no such thing, just a movement from antiscientific propaganda groups to mislead people by misrepresenting the actual evidence. Seed oils are not worse than those produced from animal sources, and for some there is evidence of being more healthy. What the actual research says is bad for your health is to eat too much oily (fried) foods no matter which oil has been used.
The article even makes this very clear how your claims are wrong
You have presented zero evidence that refutes what the experts in the article explain, just baselessly claiming they are wrong the same as in every news, "science wrong because I say so" that is just a reflection of a deeply irrational antiscientific basis, not an argument.
This is as valid as saying that switching back to animal fats is inevitable since it will gain too many customers, it is not like people are going to use less oils (which is what should actually happen).
Not at all, valid research being misrepresented and twisted by antiscience propaganda groups is not something that demonstrate anything, this is why the scientific consensus of the world contradicts your personal beliefs. I mean, it is impossible to pretend they (as in every hospital, public health system, university, research institute, etc.) of the world is on a conspiracy to hide "the truth", that is just the same excuse creationists and flat earthers use to pretend they are right when the evidence clearly points to the opposite direction.
Jay
Completely false. The dangers of seed oils have been well-documented for YEARS. Unlike stable animal fats and coconut/MCT oil, seed oils are highly processed, chemically extracted, and packed with inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids that - again- throw your body’s natural balance out of whack. ESPECIALLY when they're heated - oxidation leads to toxic aldehydes, which have been linked to everything from neurodegenerative diseases to cancer. Why are you ignoring this simple fact of biochemistry?
And the idea that "all oils are the same" is just lazy propaganda designed to keep people hooked on ultra-processed, low-quality fats that conveniently prop up the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Unsurprising and absolutely pathetic.
virusrex
Yet every recognized institution of medicine, nutrition, etc. disagrees? that is impossible to believe, the reality is that (as the article you are commenting usefully describes) there is no such research, just people with personal profit in mind misrepresenting the studies, this is easy to identify because they try as much as possible to never link the supposed studies because anybody with a minimum amount of scientific literacy can easily find out the misrepresentations and falsifications those people try to use.
Making up imaginary mechanisms that should cause damage while epidemiological studies demonstrate there is no such thing happening are nothing but trying to mislead people.
How about sources that refute what the experts in this article are saying about the misrepresentation of science? or are you also going to make baseless accusations about them lying? that would also require proof that you never provide.

The huge seed oil industry fuels much of the farm and food industry in the US, which fund most of the nutrition research. So of course "the science" will say that seed oils are healthy.
But I'd rather listen to the scientists (not "influencers") who are not connected to these industries. They have documented the many health issues associated with seed oils.
I'veSeenFootage
Sure. Then why does "the science" of Japan, Sweden, South Africa and Brazil say the same thing? Are they also funded by the US farm and food industry?
BorisM
And who would that be? Your ignorance seems to surpass itself daily.
virusrex
"most" is still insufficient for the conspiracy argument to hold any water, even if 10%, 5% or 1% of the research was not funded in any way by any industry that would still be enough to refute the consensus with readily available evidence. That this does not happen means everybody (no matter from where is the funding) is on the same page, just one that you don't want to accept.
Scientists without evidence, without reports, without credibility... Mostly not scientists at all.
You mean like the "new sheriff" saying how useful are antibiotics treating Measles? That is a very clear show of knowing less than nothing. And showing even less evidence of the claims made.
People that actually want to have an opinion based on reality, there is nothing invalid about valid appeal to scientific authority, that is the whole point of having it. Pretending everybody is on a global conspiracy that kills their friends and family much earlier just because the consensus refutes what you think about a topic is what is much more closer to a Joke, impossible to believe for anybody rational.
It is the scientific consensus, nameless people on the internet calling it junk are not even remotely relevant to the evidence that support this consensus.
Jimizo
Alternative media podcast watchers are extremely intelligent, insightful and thoughtful.
They should be taken seriously on health matters.
Anyway, when we are forced to eat insects by the elites, could this improve nutrition?
fallaffel
To be fair, there is not really such thing as "scientific consensus" on anything, if you take that term to mean that literally everyone agrees. There are always a few, umm "interesting personalities", in every field who disagree with the majority based on some disproven theory they just can't let go of.
But usually someone with an elementary school education can also figure out that if a huge majority of scientists (or any experts in general) have the same position on something, they're probably right about it...
BorisM
Perhaps in your infinite wisdom, you could enlighten us all on what you think about seed oils?
Jay
Are you talking about the same institutions that once pushed sugar-laden diets, defended trans fats for decades, and assured us smoking was totally fine? The same ones conveniently funded by massive food corporations and pharmaceutical conglomerates, who profits skyrocket when people are sick and dependent on their "solutions"? And yet, you expect us to blindly trust them while they dismiss mountains of independent research showing the dangers of highly processed seed oils?
Maybe instead of parroting industry-approved talking points, you should ask yourself why so many independent researchers, doctors, and even athletes have abandoned seed oils - and why people who cut them out report better health across the board. But instead, you seem to keep trusting the same institutions that got us into this metabolic disaster in the first place.

Cleveland Clinic - Center for Human Nutrition Dietician J Zumpano says
Avoiding the inflammatory/anti-inflammatory debate of Omegas 3 & 6, it's the processing that most seed oils go through that negates many of the health benefits they may have.
The same can be said of overprocessed vegetable oils in general, of which there are no shortage of. Unless you can verify the quality, ie authentic extra-virgin olive oil, then possibly you'd find most oils adulterated, over-refined and perhaps containing chemical traces from processing. In addition many oils have been through a hydrogenation process producing trans-fat which no one gives a thumbs up to. They can be found in many processed foods like icecream, cakes, cookies, etc - in fact anything that calls for a stabilized fat for extra shelf life or smoothness/taste.
And the greatest problem with seed oils are they are used in abundance in most processed foods in combination with other additives like sugar, salt, flavorings, stabilizers, antifungal agents, preservatives etc adding to an already unhealthy cocktail of ingredients.
You will never find a major (or possibly minor) food processer using EV Olive Oil for example just simply on the availability and affordability difficulties.
Processed oils - esp seed - are very cheap and do not represent the nutrition of the original vegetable matter.
But they are useful both commercially and in the home, but should be taken in with the knowledge of their contents and used in moderation/sparingly.
fallaffel
I think they are safe to use when I cook, but not safe if you eat too much of them as part of a bad diet. Basically the same as other oils. Shocking, right?
virusrex
Do you imagine this happened to all institutions world wide? because the consensus come from the full global scientific community, it makes no sense to pretend the whole world in any way, in any time did this, yet you keep making this misrepresentation when confronted with the reality that the science refutes what you try to push.
No parroting simply making obvious the science have proved you wrong. And there is no mystery, when the consensus is so clear it requires talent and knowledge to make a living in the middle of actual professionals doing their job correctly and competently, so there is always people that become denialist so they can have the easy profit from misleading people into believing the opposite of what has been proved. It is easy to prove someone fell this low because they never produce any evidence.
This is addressed in the article
Decker said the hexane used as a liquid solvent to extract the oil is evaporated off and that the residue that remains “is very low and would not present a risk.”
What evidence do you have that Decker is wrong? what epidemiological data proving the oils negatively affect the health independently of being used in excess (since this applies for all kinds of oils)?
But the important part is that this problem applies to all kinds of oils, not just seed oil, so the actual intervention necessary is to reduce this use to healthy levels.
Still baseless accusations used as excuse when confronted with the evidence contradicting what you want to believe, as believable as when creationists and flat earthers try to use it.
Which obviously evidence a personal bias, do you also think pneumologists and oncologists smoke and that somehow proves smoking is not dangerous? Imagining people doing things is not an argument, scientific data and evidence are still necessary.

We cut down on the use of oils. Mostly use an air fryer oven for many items. I recommend one of those. Some olive oil for salad dressings. And sesame oil, which is used in very small amounts.

If people don't like oils, there are many Japanese dishes they don't eat. We like tempura, karaage, and tonkatsu occasionally.

More deception and lies pouring forth from the Trump officials. Who could have seen this coming when they installed a anti-vaxer as health chief?
Americans getting bad information on health will see the nations health getting so much worse. As if the current national obesity levels were not bad enough, lets make them even worse.
HopeSpringsEternal
MAHA driven by science. Too many processed foods using too many processed ingredients. Consumers in US on average need more common sense, regarding nutrition and therefore eat far fewer processed foods with their overuse of oils etc.
Wealthy and/or Educated Americans do just fine with nutrition, rather it's the less prosperous and educated that need the real help.
RFK Jr. at HHS is committed to MAHA, good man, badly tarnished by false big media psi ops campaigns for years, but his MANY millions of supporters know better.
PS. Kennedy would have won a general election vs. Trump if Dems hadn't kept him out of primaries vs. Biden
HopeSpringsEternal
Supposedly price of olive oil is supposed to drop, as Spain and Italy have had far better weather for their crops...but don't expect Japanese Grocery stores to pass on the savings anytime soon, as prices stay stuck you see, they never fall!
virusrex
You mean driven mad by science right? what is the point of pretending the experts and scientists of the world are all wrong while a completely unprepared person, self admittedly crippled by a brain parasite, is right by contradicting the evidence? It makes as much sense as saying that antibiotics are very effective against Measles, which again is something that the same person actually said.
And correct information instead of wild imaginations without basis in reality. RFKjr is committed only to his own profit and will do and say anything that will benefit him personally, the media only has to put him on a screen for the tarnish to happen, after all he has contradicted himself often enough to become his worst enemy.
Jay
Absolutely laughable. Yeah, a Kennedy - born into one of America's wealthiest and most powerful families - really needs to grift for cash. Is that the best you've got?
No, you need to be HONEST and admit the real issue here is that RFK Jr. threatens the iron grip of pharmaceutical conglomerates and massive food corporations, and you know it. His calls for accountability put billions in profit at risk, so your only move is to smear him with vague accusations and hope people don't notice the financial interests the industry protecting.
Keep scrambling.
BorisM
Clearly, you're actively opposed to people taking charge of their own health and backed by a government that won't undermine it by protecting their food and pharmaceutical industry friends from legal responsibility for what goes into food and medical treatments.
How very humanitarian of you!
virusrex
Apparently he has, he even had to retract his previous declarations that he did not profit from his antivaxxer activities when it was discovered he received hundreds of thousands of dollars for it, when someone lies this openly about his sources of income it is understandable to expect the same many other times.
That is not the issue, as the article clearly explains the issue is people peddling false information for profit when it is extremely clear they have no basis for their declarations. Once again, either the full scientific community of the world and their evidence are wrong or a brain-parasite handicapped person that has been found lying repeatedly is, there is no contest.
On the contrary for people toa take care of themselves precise and correct information is required, Kennedy offers disinformation by default and has lied repeatedly in many different kinds of topics, he works actively against people taking correct decisions about their health.
Not to count that he also works actively eliminating prices caps, regulatory organizations and investigations that pharmaceutical companies have always opposed. His work in this administration has been unequivocally prioritizing companies and not the public. The opposite of what someone humanitarian would do.
