Never knew that hunger in Canada mattered more than hunger in other countries.

Where's Trudeau?

There are starving people in every country on Earth. With the possible exceptions of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE.

Are we sure there is no mixing up between cause and consequence.

I mean there is plenty of food on the shelves. If you are hungry because no money, you would steal it. I think money goes elsewhere for those people concerned...

This story implies there is a negative correlation between country wealth and hunger. IMHO, that's not always the case, rich means high cost of living, so unless you're earning enough, you'll likely not have enough to buy food.

They found a correlation not a causation, this work is interesting and shows more detailed research is necessary, but let’s not jump to conclusions on limited facts. The fact that some people are not eating an adequate or balanced diet, while concerning is also more nuanced as there are undoubtedly a number of reasons/factors involved, so again jumping to simplistic solutions to complex problems is not called for.

@zichi, most of those children are aboriginal.

And let's not jump to concussions (misspelling intentional). A study from Rome? About Canada? Sorry, that just doesn't cut it with this Canuck.

Where's Trudeau?

On the photo. But good luck to find which one he is with the make up and costume...

Rich countries have no reason not to resolve the problems

Respecting the freedom of peoples could be a reason. Nearly a century after Lévi-Strauss (the writer, not the jeans) , at least, let's pretend we question the forced assimilation by the richest group.

Do you let Inuits, other pre-colombian tribes and religious groups keep their traditional lifestyles and manage the long Winters as they wish ?

Or do you force them ? Like the Uighurs, Tibetans...?

Shania Twain told Larry King in an interview a few years ago that her family "didn't have enough money to put food on the table" while growing up in Canada.

About 15 minutes later, she mentioned how her mother would spend all day in bed and order her kids to go out and buy whisky and cigarettes for her every day. So there was money, just that the mother preferred not to spend it on food.

This is the background of these numbers. Compared to Japan, for example, food is plentiful and cheap in Canada. But the govt can't do much when people decide to spend their money on other things, especially the alkies and junkies.

@zichi, who the hell said that?

what a pathetic one-liner.

@JeffLee, it's good of you to provide some relevance, in a manner that I, as a Canadian, should have. We're not starving here. Yes, there are people who do that, but that isn't a choice for them because their first choice is their next fix. Food has nothing to do with drugs, and therein lies the problem.

Good luck trying to solve it.
