New clues on why women's Alzheimer's risk differs from men's

How does this scientific research jive with the gender issues of today? We're told almost on a daily basis that gender is nothing more than a social construct, and yet here one of the researchers, a woman no less, has this to say about the prevalence of Alzheimer's in women:

There's also "a biological underpinning" for sex differences in the disease

Now either she's lying, or the data must be wrong.

According to this article women and men differ in how their brains metabolize sugar, how their genes express disease, their verbal abilities and more.

I'm confused, because I've read over and over that this kind of thing just can't be possible.
